Mac, Lyn, Mary, and Lilly enter the enchanted castle with heavy hearts for they have had to say goodbye to their dear friends, AJ and Melissa. They will especially miss harassing AJ about her precious, but they sincerely bid their former sister hostesses a fond farewell and much luck with their future endeavors.
"Cheer up," Lilly says. "I have it on good authority that the fabulous LaVerne Clark will be joining us as a new hostess."
"And I hear she was going to be here today to help us welcome our guest, Diana Green," Lyn adds.
The hostesses cross the moat. Lyn's lovable unicorn, Cuddles leads the way, Mac's fairy with attitude, Foster, fluttering beside him. Suddenly, Lilly's maltipoo, TT and Mary's demon dog, Nibbie rush past.
"Nibbie, come back here!" Mary shouts. Mary and Lilly run by Mac and Lyn. Mary's "girls"are bouncing so high they nearly slap her in the face. Lilly's bodacious bottom jiggles like two large mounds of gelatin.
Mac covers her mouth and giggles. "That will certainly draw some attention."
Lyn nearly trips over her feet as they enter the castle to find TT and Nibbie barking with glee. They have already made friends with LaVerne's sidekick, a lovable greyhound named Jazzy. TT and Nibbie dance around, trying to get Jazzy to play. She yawns and finds a comfy corner to take a nap.
"I made it!" LaVerne squeals as she runs up to hug each of the hostesses.
"New Zealand was only a hop, skip, and a jump from this magical fairy-tale castle," she adds.
Lyn laughs. "Everyplace we visit is only a hop, skip, and a jump on The Roast."
"It's magical that way," Mary adds with a mischievous grin.
"The food looks magical too," Mac says. "Look at all that homemade bread."
"And they have mead!" Lyn gushes. "I love mead."
"So do I!" Lilly says.
Lyn snorts. "You love wine, cocktails, and dark beer too."
"Hey! I have eclectic taste," Lilly says with a pout.
"And the hostesses have eclectic taste in books too. I especially love paranormal and fantasy romance books like Diana's," LaVerne gushes.
Mary, Mac, Lilly, and Lyn grab LaVerne's hand and drag her forward as they rush across the Great Hall to greet Diana, Huroth and Lady Orwenna.
"Thank you so much for hosting us," Diana says. "The food looks delicious, especially my cake."
"There' always good food on the Roast," Lilly says as she pats her bottom. "And it all goes straight to my hips."
"Cheer up," Lilly says. "I have it on good authority that the fabulous LaVerne Clark will be joining us as a new hostess."

LaVerne smiles and plucks a strawberry from atop the cake. "I don't care where it goes later, but for now, it's going in my mouth!"
"It's another Friday on the Roast and we have much to celebrate," Mary says.
"That's right!" Lyn raises her glass. "Let's all welcome LaVerne as our newest hostesses."
Mac smiles and raises her glass. "And let's celebrate Diana's newest release, Dragon Wife"
"Cheers!"
The clan is waking. After centuries of spellbound sleep, dragon-shifters are returning to the mountains. They are few in number, and the outside world has become overrun with humans. Huroth, the dragon chieftain, recognizes a need for his kind to adapt, by forming alliances and mate-bonds with humans, but his clan is divided.
From the first time she meets him, Lady Orwenna is drawn to the magnificent chieftain. The mind link he forms with her is both fascinating and frightening, as is the powerful attraction she feels for him. If only she knew what was in his heart. Does he want her for the woman she is, or for her magical abilities? When war breaks out between kingdoms and ancient enemies of the dragons resurface, the clan will be tested. In the midst of uncertainty, can Huroth and Orwenna find their way together?

Excerpt
The gathering grew quiet as sounds of boot heels on stone echoed from the entryway. A man strode in alone, though to call him a man seemed less than sufficient. There was such raw power about him, such majesty in his bearing. No one could mistake his identity. This was the black dragon, shifted to man-like form, just as legend described. Orwenna felt the hairs stand up on the back of her neck.
“I am Huroth, son of Huren,” he announced, his voice rich and deep. He faced the king, down the long silent hall. “I am chieftain of the dragons who dwell in the Drake’s Teeth Mountains. We offer an alliance to the kingdom of Rhelaun. How do you answer?”
“You are most welcome, honored guest.” The King bowed, as he spoke, then beckoned the chieftain. “Please, come and talk with me, so we can decide how this alliance shall be arranged.”
As Huroth advanced toward the throne, he made an impressive picture. He was tall and broad shouldered, wearing dark leather armor and a heavy fur-lined cloak. His hair tumbled in a thick black mane, his eyes the pale blue of glacier ice. They swept over the courtiers, coolly assessing. When those eyes came to rest on Orwenna, she felt time slow. Everyone else, all her surroundings, faded to nothing.

Good Morning Diane, welcome to your Roast Party. What a fabulous setting, we do love enchanted castles. Hopefully Huroth and Orwenna will feel right at home. This sounds like a great book, definitely on my TBR list!
ReplyDeleteIt's nearing the magical hour here in NZ, Diane - so how fitting is it that I'm checking your book out as I type! Ooo, pale blue eyes....I'll be dreaming of your Huroth in just a few minutes - thank you! :) By the way, since you grew up in NZ, I'm claiming you as one of ours :)
ReplyDeleteI knew it! LaVerne is going to hog Diana all day because they are both Kiwis. lol! BTW, I LOVE that trailer, Diana! Gave me goosebumps. It reminds me of the movie Rein of Fire, only the dragons are good guys, not bad guys. And Huroth reminds me of Christian Bale...only with sexier eyes. I'm with LaVerne on the pale blue eye thing!
ReplyDeleteHehehe - you know me well, Lilly! :)
DeleteLun hugs Lilly and LaVerne in a group hug. Lol sister hostesses, oggling Huroth already! I dunno, no male is safe from the Author Roastesses! :) I do agree about the trailer though, it's great isn't it!
ReplyDelete*hic* and Lyn can't even spell her own name. Sorry, too much mead, already!
ReplyDeleteYou really should share, Lyn. Give me some!
DeleteWow, I love the video. Hope you have a lot of sales
ReplyDeleteHi Marlow, thanks so much for stopping by! Yes, it's a great video isn't it, can't wait to read the book. Do have a goblet of mead!
ReplyDeleteGood Morning Ladies!
ReplyDeleteThank you for throwing this splendid party. Huroth, Orwenna, and I are already enjoying ourselves immensely. Such a fabulous castle, and so much good food, even mead to top things off. I love it.
La Verne, I most definitely have fond memories of growing up in New Zealand. In fact, some of the landscapes, enjoyed during childhood camping trips there, were an inspiration for the setting of Dragon Wife.
Thanks to everyone for the great comments about the Dragon Wife book trailer. I had so much fun making that. Choosing just the right music really helped to set that fantasy feel.
It's lovely to meet you all and your various creatures/pets. I'll be stopping by more today to enjoy the party and answer questions anyone might have. In the meantime, feel free to ogle Huroth. Even my editor said, "I just want to take that dragon home with me." I share the sentiment
Hope he has some friends available? I must watch my virtue, but...wow
DeleteHope your editor isn't opposed to sharing. lol!
DeleteOur pleasure Diane! We're so glad you brought Hiroth and Orwenna with you. And no-one needs a second invitation to oggle Hiroth! Good job Oliver is doing such a good job of plying Orwenna with mead and strawberry shortcake! :)
ReplyDeleteI thought I'd share one of my favorite lines from Dragon Wife. Huroth, the dragon clan chieftain not only has a sense of honor, but a sense of humor as well. He enjoys teasing Orwenna...
ReplyDelete“If you’re fretting about those stories, where dragons carry off beautiful virgins, I can put your mind at rest. I haven’t done that in ages.”
Love a man with a sense of humor!
DeleteLOL! He is awesome, although I'd have to say, if I was Orwenna, I sure wouldn't be fretting, lucky lady! Sigh....
DeleteHey Hey, chickies! Hiya Diane. So sorry I'm late. I was over yonder, downloading a yummy dragon chieftain...Er...I mean, Diane's book. The chickies are right. Great trailer. So, is there any mead left? :-)
ReplyDeleteLOL, Diana, I'm glad to hear that Huroth carry off beautiful virgins any longer. Not that we were worried were we girls! ;
ReplyDeleteI wasn't worried at all. :-)
DeleteNope not worried at all.
DeleteOh, so glad you're here now, Mac, we were afraid you might have got carried away!
ReplyDeleteYes, there's still plenty of mead left. You know Oliver always makes sure we have plenty in reserve when I'm around! :)
LOL Yeah, you were the reason I asked if any was left.
DeleteSounds like my kind of book! Any time I can cuddle up and enjoy a dragon, I'm happy.
ReplyDeleteHiya Laura. Doesn't this sound good? I had to grab my copy. :-)
DeleteHi Laura, thanks for joining us at Diana's party. There's one thing - there's a lot of dragon to cuddle! :)
ReplyDeleteSure Mac, you were downloading a what? Tell the truth, you were fighting over a copy of Dragon's Wife. I didn't expect you to trip me an leave me in that hole. I wanna see the dragon myself. I always dreamed of them as a kid. I had my own. Too bad it wasn't like this story. I think a cuddle would be wonderful myself with all that heat. Whew. I'm getting excited now. What was your inspiration? LaVerne, watch out Lyn's feet are lethal weapons!
ReplyDeleteOoo, thanks for the warning, Mary! I was sure she did that on purpose! Although I'm not too sure if she's trying to keep me away from the mead or the lovely Oliver. :)
DeleteSomeone needs to guard the mead, Lyn don't hog it all. You know how you get when you drink to much mead. Easy...
ReplyDeleteI'll guard the mead. *wink*wink*
DeleteIt's great to be at a party with so many women who appreciate dragons...especially ones who shape-shift to look like norse gods.
ReplyDeleteHuroth is definitely my most ALPHA hero yet. I actually dreamed his and Orwenna's characters. As soon as I woke, I knew I had the seed for an exciting love story.
It sounds right up my alley. I love paranormal and dragons who shift, WooHoo
DeleteHuroth can shift for me anytime. Well, maybe one of his buddies. I don't want to make Orwenna mad, but hubba hubba.
You are so lucky to have a dream like that,Diana! I have a bit of a weakness for Norse gods myself , not to mention dragons!
DeleteHave any of you ever been inspired by a dream. I'm surprised how often that is the start of my story ideas.
ReplyDeleteI know it sounds crazy, but I used to dream about, Michael Landon, when he was on Little House On the Prairie, now I dream more like Huroth. Where are the guys anyhow?
DeleteYep, dreamland is a fertile field. :-)
DeleteI dream up characters all the time and when I'm awake, they talk to me in the bathtub. Whenever I'm stuck on a plot point, I have a glass of wine, take a hot bath, and go to bed thinking about my characters. Sometimes, I'm lucky enough to dream up the answer. I have even been known to jump out of bed and record notes on my phone or run to the computer to type it up. Writers are a crazy breed. Aren't we?
ReplyDeleteI never have characters talk to me. I'm thinking skitzo? LOL
DeleteMine is the shower. There must be something about water. I like your idea better, Lilly. You can't really drink a glass of wine in the shower!
DeleteYou're right there LaVerne - unfortunaely mine have no choice but the shower since that's all our tiny home has!
DeleteWhat other character have you dreamed up, Diana?
ReplyDeleteI recently had a fast-paced action dream, fighting monsters in an otherworld setting reminiscent of Edwardian London. When I woke, I was completely captivated by the characters and situation in the dream. One thing led to another. I'm now 130 pages into a novel, which starts with my dream sequence. It has morphed into a concept for a six book series, so I have to give a huge THANK YOU to the muse! I love it when ideas flow like that.
DeleteAwesome!
DeleteBTW Lyn, I was worried about being carried off. I look virginal. LOL
ReplyDeleteLMAO Yeah, virginal is what I think of when you and the girls are prancing around.
DeleteROFL! Good one, Mac!
DeleteHmmm, that 's not quite what I think when I look at you Mary sweetie! :)
ReplyDeleteI have to say my characters talk to me all the time, the trouble is most of the time they want to argue!
What ever do you mean Lyn? I'm wondering? LOL Me?
DeleteThey always want to seem to change the ending I have worked out for them!
DeleteI keep telling them I'm the boss but they don't listen! Bet Diana didn't have that trouble with Orwenna and Huroth!
I'm often intrigued to see where my characters will go with a scene. Sometimes they do what I had planned, but other times they run off in a different direction. Often those are some of the best bits of the story, when the inspiration just comes (from where, I don't know) and I feel more like a witness to the story, rather than the person thinking it up.
DeleteAbsoloutely - though sometimes it can be a bit annoying if they take the story in a direction you hadn't intended!
DeleteI call those 'stenographer' moments. Love when that happens.
DeleteIt's fascinating all the different ways authors get ideas. Dreams are definitely the most common for me, but songs also spark inspiration.
ReplyDeleteI've never tried the "wine and a bath" fix for writer's block. It sounds appealing, and I certainly wouldn't mind if Huroth wanted to start a conversation.
I have to say I never hear a work. I get inspiration from the things around me. Articles about history. Someone's hardship. I wonder, do the voices talk to you guys? I mean really? Or is it your imagination...I think a bountiful imagination is the main thing that helps authors. They are story tellers after all...And I for one, wish I had a better one!!!
DeleteNothing wrong with your imagination Mary! (Whisper) *For a start she thinks I have big feet!*
DeleteLOL She's got you there, Mary.
DeleteBy the way, here is Orwenna's response to Huroth's comment about carrying off beautiful virgins.
ReplyDelete“Since I’m not a beauty or a virgin, I won’t worry,” she said tartly. “I’ll just pray you know how to fly well enough not to drop me.”
She pretty much gives as good as she gets, even when completely smitten with him.
my kinda gal!
DeleteLove it! :-)
DeleteLove her response!
DeleteMy characters can come to me in dreams==but daydreams, not the other kind :) And I like Orwenna's comeback to Huroth :)
ReplyDeleteHi Barbara, LOL I like that comeback too!
ReplyDeleteDiane, I enjoyed your trailer and my son would love it too. He has always enjoyed dragons and Greek lore. This reminds me of some of his drawings
ReplyDeleteLaVerne, so glad you joined the Roast and Toast Authors on my second favorite blog. My first favorite blog is, of course, Lilly Gayle's blog, and I enjoy reading all the Roast and Toast Authors.
Hi to all the authors and I hope you have a great weekend!
Thanks for the entertainment,
Rebecca
Hi Rebecca! It's always lovely to see you! :) I feel super lucky to be a part of this awesome group of ladies.
DeleteI'm so glad you enjoyed the trailer. It's my favorite of the one's I've made so far, because it really captures the feeling of the story.
DeleteLike your son, I have loved mythology ever since I was a child.
Aww. Thanks, Rebecca! But I think you might be biased just a bit. Rebecca is my number one fan....and my mom's first cousin.
DeleteBut doesn't she have fabulous taste? lol!
Hi Rebecca, thanks so much for joining us. do stay and have some refreshments, and enjoy your weekend too!
ReplyDeleteOoo, this book looks yummy. :) And you know, I would really love a taste of that homemade bread. Might some pass me a slice? And since I'm here...echosheawriter@gmail.com. :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Hywela, The refreshments sound delicious and the company fantabulous(a word I made up which is double fabulous), lol!
ReplyDeleteHi Echo, my friend, it's great to see you again. Hav another slice of bread -and some mead - and what about some of that strawberry shortcake?
ReplyDeleteHi Rebecca, do help yourself to refreshments - and that's a great word! Fantabulous!
ReplyDeleteWhere's the beef, and I don't mean roast beef. Did LaVerne steal all the hot guys??
ReplyDeleteDarn, I was hoping you wouldn't notice for a while....
Delete*sheepishly drags a couple back from behind the tapestries*
But I'll have you know the safety of you all was uppermost in my mind while I patted them down for weapons of any kind. *grin*
One thing I've noticed about you LaVerne - you're certainly all heart! LOL
DeleteIf you'e talking about Huroth Mary, I think you'll have to get in line! LOL
ReplyDeleteDoesn't he have any dragon friends. I hear they're hot! All the good ones are probably taken...:0(
ReplyDeleteI think you'll have to ask Diana that one Mary!
ReplyDeleteHi there ladies. I thought I'd join the party and throw an Aussie into the mix!
ReplyDeleteDiana your story sounds great. I've never curled up with a dragon before but I'm willing to give it a go! :)
Hi Georgie welcome to the Rosat, all Nationalities are welcome - I'm Welsh but no-one seems to hold it against me *grin*. Although I have to admit I wouldn't mind being held against Huroth; I think we all fancy being curledf up next to a dragon like him! :) Do help yourself to refreshments and some mead - and there's some apple cider too, I believe.
ReplyDeleteThanks Hywela. Oh, you are cheeky! But I'm with you I wouldn't mind getting to know a fire breather like Huroth myself! I think I will help myself to some mead, and limber up a bit.
ReplyDeleteOh yes, Georgie, let's drink mead, limber up and flyyyyyyyyyy! :)
ReplyDeletePleased to see everyone is having a good time.
ReplyDeleteYou'll be glad to know Huroth has a number of available friends. In fact there's a whole clan of them, all strapping, handsome, and looking for love. The dragons are a little short on mates at the moment.
LOL, that's a slightly dangerous thing to say when the hostesses are around Diana - you'll have the dragons fleeing for the hills with the ladies in hot pursuit! *chortle*
DeleteYou're my kind of party animal, Hywela!
ReplyDeleteBy the way, I saw we were getting low on mead, so I sent Tallok (ice blue dragon) out to bring us another three barrels.
ReplyDeleteHe should be back any minute.
Hey Diana. Are you sure that's enough?
ReplyDeleteWell... Perhaps I'd better send Rhourik (emerald green dragon) out for another barrel or two. He could use the exercise. I saw him eating quite a bit of cake earlier.
ReplyDeleteSpeaking of dragons and eating...I have another favorite bit of dialogue from Dragon Wife. It's at the point in the story when Orwenna is worried about her cousin, Ayelet, (who is betrothed to be a dragon wife). She tells Huroth of her concern.
ReplyDelete“I’m worried about my cousin,” she said at last. “Princess Ayelet is not prepared for the kind of life you lead. She’s never even had to dress herself, let alone skin and cook a mountain goat.”
Huroth’s brows rose at this turn in the conversation.
“That shouldn’t be a problem for her,” he said. “We generally don’t bother with skinning or cooking.” The corner of his lips twitched slightly.
LOL, I like Huroth better all the time. I'm gonna have to get this book!
DeleteOn my Kindle! Can't wait to read it!
ReplyDeleteOoo. It's heating up down under. Tell Rhourik and Tallok to hurry up with that mead. :)
ReplyDeleteIt's getting hot everywhere, Georgie, with all these hunky dragons suddenly metamorphasising into equally hunky men! *fans herself furiously*
ReplyDeleteYou had me back at the bunch of dragons. Woo Hoo, I'm looking for fire!!! Later ladies, I'm gonna fly too. No fan for me, Lyn, last one to cuddle a dragon is left out.. I'm a shifter lover myself.See you tomorrow. Hehehe You drink the mead, I aim to be sober for this evening.
ReplyDeleteHi Ladies! Waving enthusiastically! Book sounds terrific and the blog post very fun. Happy Friday.
ReplyDeleteHi Patsy
DeleteThanks so much, great to see you, glad you enjoyed the post, and Happy Friday to you too!
Sorry to hear AJ and Melissa are leaving. Good luck to them. Sorry I am so late. Really nice book cover. Sounds like a great book. This is a great party.
ReplyDeleteSue B
katsrus(at)gmail(dot)com
Hi Sue, you're not late - you know our parties run until the fat lady sings - and she hasn't arrived yet! *grin*.l Glad you enjoyed the party, and as always, thanks for your support.
DeleteWell it looks like Tallok and Rhourik have returned with the mead, so I'm sure they can happily keep partying until the wee hours.
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately, I have to rise early tomorrow, so I'm going to call it a night.
This has been great fun ladies. Thanks for throwing such a lavish bash!
Thank goodness for Tallok and Rhourik, it would be terrible if we'd run out of mead. We've really enjoyed having you as our special guest, Diana and will keep the party going over the weekend in case of late comers and to give those of us who've had just a little too much mead chance to recover!
DeleteWoohoo!!! Am I the last one standing then? More mead for us! :) *Links arms with Tallok and Rhourik* Come on boys - it's my birthday today and you look like just the kind of boys I'll be happy to party with ;)
ReplyDelete*keeps firm grip so they don't run away*
*Jazzy raises her head from her prone position to eye the disappearing hostess, huffs out a sigh and goes back to sleep*
Happy Birthday LaVerne, I'm sure Diana won't mind you having another piece of cake and some more mead to celebrate!
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday LaVerne. Good morning everyone.
ReplyDeleteSue B
Oh my gosh! Love this!!! I'm a huge lover of Dragons! Wishing you all the best!
ReplyDeleteHey, it's time to light the candles on LaVerne's birthday cake. In case y'all didn't know, it's LaVerne's birthday. I think she's 21....again. lol! So open up a bottle of something strong and sweet!!! Time to celebrate Diana's release and LaVerne's birthday. This party is going on all weekend!!
ReplyDeleteHi Mary, thanks so much for joining the party, I've just got this book myself and am looking forward to reading it. Have a piece of cake and some mead!
ReplyDeleteLOL don't you just love it when a dragon's lips are all covered in frosting from the celebration cake!
ReplyDeleteAll right...a party that lasts all weekend! You ladies would fit in well with the dragon clan. They do love their celebrations. The more mead the better. Oh, and breathing fire is always handy when lighting birthday candles on the cake.
ReplyDeleteSo, HAPPY BIRTHDAY LaVerne! I'm sure the dragon lads will be glad to make this a memorable one for you.
this has been one of the best parties ever! Happy Birthday LaVerne and since you are only 21, many, many, more! LOL And get the med from Lyn or there won't be any for the rest of us...I want a dragon too.
ReplyDeleteOff to slay the dragon with kisses. I found one finally. In the pages of a great story!
ReplyDeleteYes, and that story is 'Dragonwife'! ;) By the way, I forgot to say I have two other books by Diana on my Kindle, waiting to be read, 'New Sion' and 'On The Outside', I am really looking forward to reading them, but want towait until I have chance to take the time and really enjoy them!
ReplyDeleteI notice that most of the lovely hosts have books with The Wild Rose Press, an awesome publisher, if I do say so myself.
ReplyDeleteI'll be interested to check out your titles. They look intriguing. My only regret is that my to-be-read list is longer than both my arms, legs, and the kitchen table. There are so many good books and so little time. I'm definitely adding your titles and look forward to reading them.
Too bad spending hours and hours reading doesn't pay worth a darn. I guess it might, in a perfect world where chocolate and cream cheese are also really health foods. lol
I think the Wild Rose Press is a wondeful publisher and I'm preparing to send my next book out to them. I absolutely agree with you about te TBR list - which is why yous are on my Kindle still waiting to be read. I have to buy books when I find out abut them or I forget, and then try to read them in sequence. Oh for your perfect world of chocolate, cream cheese and books (and mead) :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for the birthday wishes everyone! What a way to celebrate :)
ReplyDeleteI'm in complete agreement about the TBR list, Diana. Mine is HUGE!! But I always seem to find more room in my kindle, now if only I could find more time! Ahh...if only I really was still 21, just imagine how much time I'd have left to read! :)
Looks like the party is winding down. Think I'll go lick some frosting off a dragon before I call it a weekend. lol! Happy birthday weekend, LaVerne. And Happy sales, Diana. My TBR list just grew even longer!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for being such a lovely guest of honour, Diana, and for introducing us to the hunkiest of dragons. I second Lilly's wish for many sales and I hope your birthday was spectacular, LaVerne.
ReplyDeleteThank you all so much for the awesome party. I had loads of fun!
ReplyDeleteI am ironing my tuxedo and searching for my bowtie in anticipation of my Hollywood roast on September 5 for my mystery/romance novel, PAPER DOLL. See you then!
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to roasting you Joe! :)
ReplyDelete
