RELEASE DAY FOR 'UNTIL THERE WAS YOU' - 8TH OCTOBER!
The tips of Mary’s skis cross and she falls, sliding face down the gentle snow-covered slope. “Help me!” she screeches. “I can’t stop.”
Digging deep with the ski poles, Patsy races to Mary’s side. “Dig your toes in. That’ll stop you.”
Mac schusses the hill, paralleling like an old pro and turning at the last second in a graceful stop. “Mary, you need to relax. Hardly anyone ever gets hurt on the bunny hill!”
Mary pushes back her pink ski cap which has fallen over her face. “What book did you get that from? My legs are killing me. Whoever said this snowplow crap is easy?”
Nibby races up with a small brown cask tied to her throat. She yips, tail wagging.
“Look,” Lyn laughs as she takes off her bright blue ski gloves. “Nibby brought you a bracing libation.” She pats the dog’s head. “What a good girl you are!”
Mac checks her watch. “It’s about time to head into the ski lodge. The slopes will be closing down any minute and you don’t want to be the last person on the hill. The ski patrol will follow your every move and it is so embarrassing.” She leans over to Patsy, whispering conspiratorially. “Happened to me once and I about died from humiliation. Broke one of my skis and had to walk down below the chairlift.”
“Maybe I can ride on their sled.” Mary brightens at the idea. “Did you see how cute some of those ski patrol guys are?”
Patsy leans over, grabbing Mary’s arm. “Only get to ride if you’re really hurt and the only thing really hurt right now is your pride.”
The three ladies struggle to get Mary on her feet.
Lyn wipes her brow, heaving a sigh. “We could use a few of those ski patrol guys right now and I could use a hot toddy laced with a nice amount of Canadian Club.”
Mary lurches to the side, caught at the last minute by Patsy whose massive arms bulge with the effort.
“Mary, keep your weight over your skis,” Patsy advises. “Knees bent, tips together, weight even. Piece of cake!”
“Maybe for you,” Mary grumbles. “But you aren’t packing the weight on your chest like I am. Just makes me fall over on these dang things.”
Lyn wraps her arms around Mary’s waist. “Okay, we’ll do this together. Just let me balance you and we’ll slide down the hill to the ski lodge. Now relax!”
Mac slips in front of Mary and the three slide slowly down the slope towards the lodge.
Patsy stops to admire the quaint ski town. “Isn’t it just beautiful? Looks just like it's right out of a picture book. I just love Aspen. You can ski right into town from almost anywhere on the slopes. Just wait until dark. The whole hill will light up with skiers carrying lights as they ski towards town. Happens every year at this time.”
They stop in front of the ski lodge. Cuddles and Foster peer at them from atop the huge double doors. The ladies pop their bindings and step out.
“I can’t walk any better in these ski boots than I skied on the skis,” Mary complains. “I feel like I’m carrying twenty pounds on each foot.”
Lyn’s lips press in a tight smile. “With my feet, I feel that way all the time, but then skiing comes easy for me.”
“Okay, Ladies,” Mac pushes open the door and enters the lodge. “Time for some relaxation. Follow me.”
The women trail behind. Mary stumbles as she fights to keep up. A door swings open and they all step into a room. In the center is a huge hot tub. Dressing rooms line three sides and on the far end, a bar is set up.
“Let’s have a drink and then order food.” Mac pulls off her boots and wiggles her toes. “Ahhhhh,” she breathes. “Always feels so good to get them off.”
Mary follows her lead, plopping down on a bench and yanking her boots off. “You’re telling me,” she laughs rubbing her swollen ankles. “I’m liberated!”
A tall dark-haired server walks up. Oliver smiles his sweet sexy smile, and asks if they'd like some hot drinks.
The hostesses certainly need something hot and Oliver has arranged for suits and towels to be available in the locker room. Nothing like a dip in a hot tub after a long day on the slopes.
Lyn pulls off her Russian style fuzzy hat. “I want a hot toddy, heavy on the alcohol.”
“I’ll take a cup of hot spiced wine,” Patsy glows with pleasure. Hampy’s little head pops from her pocket.
Mac rubs her chin, thinking. “I think I’ll have…
“Whatever it takes to ease my aches and pains I want,” Mary exclaims. “How about a Dos Equus - and lots of it. Isn’t hot but it’s numbing!”
Oliver advises them to order dinner before the rush and to try the Prime Rib French Dip, it’s his favorite – with homemade fries. He adds a wink.and tells them not to forget a slice of the German chocolate cake! It is out of this world!
Jessica heads for the bar. “I’ve got this Oliver. I’ll be right back. Make yourselves comfortable.”
Blissfully, Mary leans back, cupping her hands behind her head. “I’ve died and gone to heaven! German chocolate cake! I guess my misery out on the ski slope has its rewards.”
A muscular young male clad in only a thong bikini strolls by. He lifts his drink and salutes them.
All the women inhale and then exhale. It is going to be a great night!

Jessica Scott returns with an all-new contemporary eBook original romance, following last fall’s release of her sizzling debut novel Because of You.
He plays by the rules, she’s not afraid to break them. Now these two strong-willed army captains will prove that opposites attract . . .
A by-the-book captain with a West Point background, Captain Evan Loehr refuses to mix business with pleasure—except for an unguarded instance years ago when he succumbed to the deep sensuality of redheaded beauty Claire Montoya. From that moment on, though, Evan has been at odds with her, through
two deployments to Iraq and back again. But when he is asked to train a team prepping for combat alongside Claire, battleworn Evan is in for the fight of his life.
Strong, gutsy, and loyal, Captain Claire Montoya has worked hard to earn the rank on her chest. In Evan, Claire sees a rigid officer who puts the rules before everything else—including his people. When the mission forces them together, Claire soon discovers that there is more to Evan than meets the eye. He’s more than the rank on his chest; he’s a man with dark secrets and deep longings. For all their differences, Evan and
Claire share two crucial passions: their country and each other.

About the Author
Jessica Scott is a career army officer, mother of two daughters, three cats, three dogs and two escape-artists hamsters, wife to a career NCO and wrangler of all things stuffed and fluffy.
She has commanded two companies, served in Germany, Korea, Fort Hood and Iraq, and been lucky not to get fired. She is a terrible cook and an even worse housekeeper, but she’s a pretty good

Good Morning Jessica, Hostesses! What a wonderful day on the slopes. Sorry Mary had such a time but the view by the hot tub is terrific. Congratulations on the release, Jessica, and we all hope for many sales.
ReplyDeleteGood morning Patsy and fellow hostesses.
ReplyDeleteWelcome to your Roast Jessica. Congratulations on your forthcoming release, it looks great!
*Patsy unstraps her ski boots* OMG that feels so good. We had a good day today but the lodge is just the right finishing touch. Oliver, I'll have a Dos Equis - no - make it two!
ReplyDeleteAll right trying this again. Blogger hates me, lol!
ReplyDeleteSorry I'm late, gang. My kiddo had to go to the drs this am unexpected but all is well now and I'm here!
Man the skiing looks like a blast!
I used to ski all the time in my first marriage. Actually skied Aspen on my honeymoon so there are some personal facts in this. The walking down under the chairlift is true, the lights at night, etc. Great place to ski and you do ski right down into town. Aspen was beautiful.
ReplyDeleteNever skied in the states other than at Sugarloaf back in Maine. I learned to ski in Germany.
ReplyDeleteI used to ski in Vermont. Stowe, Mad River Glen, it was fun, but I stunk at it as you can see. Went downhill backwards once. Unintentionally!
ReplyDeleteMaybe being top heavy made it harder? I prefer a nice toboggan!
I have to say I'm not really much of a skiier - sleigh rides are more my thing - but I'd love to visit Aspen in 'real life' it looks beautiful!
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear about your little one, Jessica, hope he/she is OK.
There's something about a gentle falling snow to add to the pure white of what's on the ground. It's so beautiful and innocent, I miss it!
ReplyDeleteIt don't snow down here, but I have seen Dante on a few of the hotter days!
Thank goodness for doctors that help our wee ones feel better!
Good morning all. Very bad reception this morning. Pour me a drink please and I'll just enjoy your antics until the cell tower wakes up.
ReplyDeleteThose unexpected doctor visits! I remember too well. But glad all is well.
ReplyDeleteI think a hot toddy after the Dos Equis would be the trick - or is that mixing drinks. Might be. Never heard of a Hot Toddy Dos Equis - sounds somewhat gross.
I've skied all over the Northwest. Favorite place was Park City, Utah. Loved the runs and the gondola going up.
Hi Mac and Mary *waves*.
ReplyDeleteI can recommend the toddies Patsy, just the thing to add to the warmth when reading Jessica's book!
What's in the thing anyhow?
ReplyDeleteTwo horses??? Dos Equis?
Oh well, down the hatch! Mary's eyes bulge and she is frozen in place by the shock of a potent drink!!
She stays that way for some time!
I'll have one of those while i drool over that gorgeous cover, Jessica. Nothing like a cold DOS Equis and Hot guy.
ReplyDeleteahh Mount Stowe. Just hearing the name makes me think of home. Mind you I never skied it but you get the idea.
ReplyDeleteHot Toddies and Hot Guys? I have an idea for a new blog hop, lol!
How about another excerpt Jessica!
ReplyDeleteTease us some more!!!
I'm going out into the cold cruel world and do some night skiing. That is my favorite time to ski, especially night skiing in the spring when there is fog. The mountains don't seem as steep and I can't see that far so I don't get so scared.
ReplyDeleteI'm not so sure about going out skiing in the dark, Patsy -what if there's a Yetti about?
ReplyDeleteooohhh night skiing! man I can already feel my nose freezing! but such a rush!!
ReplyDeleteWell there is certainly somethng very romantic about the moonlight sparkling across the snow,,,
ReplyDeleteWatch out!!! It's Bigfoot, (no not you Lyn), the big, dark, hairy one!
ReplyDeleteHe's after, us, me!!!AAHHHHH! HELP!
Yikes! Heeeeelp, I don't want to be abducted by a Yetti!
ReplyDeleteWhat if the Yeti is really a sexy hot toddie?
ReplyDeleteLyn wakes up in front of a roaring log fire and rubs her eyes.
ReplyDeleteHey - you're right Jessica, I must have been dreaming, I thought we'd been kidnapped by Yettis but they were really these hot guys wanting to keep us warm.]
How about an excerpt, Jessica, just paste it here in the comments for us!
Mac yawns. Good morning everyone. I'm so glad to see no one needed the ski patrol or was kidnapped by yettis. Aren't mornings in the mountains gorgeous. I need a good book and a roaring fire. Until There Was You looks like it would fit the bill, Jessica. Come on Oct 8th!
ReplyDeleteYes, they were dressed in a bigfoot costume, but they do have big feet. And you know what they say about guys with... well you know.
ReplyDeleteThey just left, I will be awaiting their return!!!
Have a great day everybody!!!
What a wonderful post, ladies! Loved it. :) Put me down for a copy of Jessica's book please. I'll read it with German Chocolate cake!
ReplyDeleteHi Calisa
ReplyDeleteSo glad you enjoyed the post - you're in the draw, but you'll have to wait until tomorrow night as we're extending the Roast so we can carry the celebrations into Jessica's actual release day!
Bigfoot could be sexy...hey werewolves are sexy, why not massive hulking beasts?
ReplyDeleteYou know, german chocolate cake sounds amazing. I'm going to have some AFTER I pass my next PT test.
ReplyDeleteIt's your release day, Jessica! YAY!
ReplyDeleteYou're entitled to a piece of German chocolate cake - and don't worry, it has all of the flavour, and none of the calories!
What a delightful blog! I have never been skiing (I have enough trouble not tripping over my feet while walking, can't imagine what I would manage to break if I tried to strap on skis!) but you make it sound very fun. Good luck with the release Jess (yes, I am stalking you, lol).
ReplyDeleteHi Elf, glad you enjoyed it and thanks for stopping by and commenting.
ReplyDeleteYou had me captivated once you mentioned Army captain and West Point! As a former Army wife, we spent three years at WP while my husband taught there.
ReplyDeleteLoved the excerpt!
And, the opening ski adventure was cute!
