As many of you may know, our beloved sister hostess SHARON DONOVAN, tragically passed away on 11th April 2012. We who knew her, loved her, and were inspired by her courage and determination to face head on whatever life threw at her. When she could no longer see to paint she turned to writing and showed her amazing talent in the Inspirational Romance and Romantic Suspense genres, and her story 'Charade Of Hearts' was awarded the coveted Predators and Editors Award in January 2011.

This Blog was a source of great delight to her, she was one of the founder hostesses and she contributed to the fun and silliness in her own original way, and was kind enough to let her unique creation, the hunky butler 'Oliver' join us for our Friday romp and prepare 'virtual breakfast' for the guests on the following morning. It's beyond hard to have to go on without her, but we know that she would have been the first to insist that 'the show must go on.' She is, and will always be with us in spirit.
Sharon, dear friend, we will never forget you.
The Author Roast and Toast is part of the legacy you left us. Let's raise a Toast to you as well as all our guests.

Lyn throws a party to celebrate the release of 'Beloved Enemy'

“Shifter might be hard to spot ladies, you are only gonna know he’s there is if he decides to show himself.” Mary turns  her head with great difficulty toward, Lilly, LaVerne, and Debby. "He tends to blend in!"

“These space suits are so cumbersome. You’d think they’d make them less bulky.”

Lyn chuckles as she makes her way into the
air-lock and gestures for the ladies to follow her in. “He’s highly sensitive to vibes from humans. It’s a good sign if he appears to you. Or lets you know he’s there by rubbing against your hand Debby. He might even let you touch him too Mary.”

“Ha, ha, ha, I’ll have you know I have a deep connection with animals. They love me.” Mary puckers her lower lip.

“Just kidding Mary, he will show himself to you too. Kerry and Cat assured me he was looking forward to this party.” Lyn removes her helmet as the green go light blinks to show the all clear to leave the ship.

“I never thought we’d end up in a space cantina way out here in…where are we anyhow?” Debby frowns and steps out of her spacesuit. Her party dress none the worse for being scrunched inside the suit.

“We all look pretty snazzy. You found these great dresses, Lilly, they remind me of the flowing silken robes of an alien I saw once on Star Trek. I feel so free and the colors are amazing.” LaVerne pirouettes and almost falls into Oliver, as usual looking his best in his futuristic clothing.

“Oliver, is it true the food is all made with a replicator? What do they put in there to get the food?” LaVerne smooths down her scarf like dress. A wide smile fills her face as she sees herself in a shiny wall.

Oliver, shaking his head, gestures toward a large night club lit bar, with floating tables and chairs that moved to help customers to get more comfortable, or even just get up. Small winged faery-like young alien females carry trays to the tables. The girls enter the room and note the out of this world views of space out huge circular windows. The soft pale colors of the chairs, tables and wall covering seem to change often to different mood colors. All soothing and comforting.

“They have a drink made especially for Kerry and Cat. It’s called the, Pan Galactic Gargle Blaster, they say it’s really powerful and only one will do you.” Lilly points to the drink in Mary’s hand. She has just gulped it down.

“I was thirsty. I can’t help it. And Lyn refuses to share the Mead with me.” Mary pouts.

“I was only trying to stop you from getting silly, you know how you like Mead since I gave you that bottle to try” Lyn stares in front of her. Her mind instantly on the man approaching them, she hardly notices the lovely woman holding his hand.

“Hello ladies.” Kerry Marchant takes each one of their hands and places a gentle kiss on the top of their hands. Little hearts circle their heads and sighs follow the hand kiss.

Last to get her kiss Debby announces loudly for the whole place to hear.

“We’d like to welcome you all to the celebration for the great story available as we speak. Cat and Kerry’s latest adventure is available for all to read. Beloved Enemy!”

A loud cheer fills the room and Kerry takes Debby’s hand in his, placing the gentle kiss he gave the others, who by the way are still in a trance, on her hand.

Cat and Kerry smile and kiss for the crowds as the Mead and imported chocolate from Earth are shared.

Chicken pieces, sticky ribs, and  smoked salmon, fresh from the replicator, a variety of vegetarian dishes, a chocolate fountain, strawberries and Andromedan cherries and a large Chocolate gateau fill the buffet tables for all to sample. No one pays much attention to the girls as they taste the delights, until Debby hits the floor and is helped up by a chuckling Oliver.

The sound of Debby hitting the floor shocked into her own trance by the handsome, sexy, yet very, taken man, whose story has so captivated her.

Laughter and applause fill the room as Lyn is able to break her trance and smack the other ladies playfully on their cheeks as Mary adds in her happy voice. “Beloved Enemy, you have to read it!

And you're all invited to another Release Celebration tomorrow - Mary will be a co-hostess, as well as some other familiar faces!

BLURB
Cat Kincaid is obsessed with killing the man she believes is responsible for the torture and death of her sister, but when she eventually catches up with him, survival becomes a greater priority than revenge,

Kerry Marchant, haunted by memories, regret and self-blame, shields himself from the pain of the past by committing himself totally to the starship, Destiny, of which he is part owner. However, the beautiful, red haired woman who reminds him of his lost love, and who he suspects is working for a corrupt regime, represents a possible threat not only to the ship, but to his heart.

Marooned on an inhospitable planet, they need to work together to stay alive, fighting not only unknown assailants, but their growing attraction. But how can they learn to trust each other when he has vowed never to get close to a woman again, and she made a solemn pledge to destroy him?

EXCERPT
Before she could fire, Kerry let off another barrage of plasma bolts into the river, then leapt toward her and ripped the severed tentacle from her leg. It flapped around on the wet grass. She scrambled to her knees, still slightly winded and fired at the hideous thing. The foliage around it flared for a moment with an eerie green flame and the tentacle shrivelled into a slimy black mass, emitting a pungent odour and causing her to gag for a moment.

“It seems I was mistaken about the creature being dead.” Kerry prodded the smouldering mass with his boot and looked across over the water. “It is now.” He leaned down and grasped her wrist to haul her to her feet. “Are you hurt?”

“No, I don’t think so.” Her shoulder was sore and probably bruised but she’d live. She tried to control her shivering. The incident affected her more than she wanted to admit. Kerry’s proximity, naked to the waist, his lithe body shining from the water droplets that still clung to his skin, his legs swathed in tight black leather, did nothing to help. The last thing she wanted was for him to realise how scared she’d been when she thought a snake attacked her. “Thanks. That was close. It would have been a bit ironic if I’d been killed by the same creature I saved you from.”

She realized he still grasped her wrist. She tried to move away, but he pulled her back, obliging her to turn to him.

“You are trembling.”

“I’m fine.”

“No,” he said. “You’re not.” He pulled her closer and his eyes softened, his gaze holding her mesmerized. She opened her mouth to try to speak, but in the same instant he put his hand under her chin and his lips closed over hers.

  1. Congrats on your latest release, Lyn. I know I'm extremely early, but I have to make an appearance at the day job...on my Friday off, no less! But I'll zip back in time for afternoon refreshments. Hey, do you think anyone will mind if I gulp down one of those Galactic Gargle Blasters before I run off to the hospital for a few hours? Shhh. Don't tell anyone.

  6. Good morning, ladies. May I say how charming you all look in your lovely gowns. Thank you for joining us in our celebration of the release of our book. Good morning Hywela Lyn, I forgive you for everything you put me through - after all, you did bring me and Cat together. Talking about Cat, she will be along shortly. I think she's trying to persuade Shifter to reveal himself. He is quite shy where there are a lot of people and tends to become almost invisible.
Meanwhile - eat, drink and enjoy yourselves!
