Who doesn't love a barbeque? We're delighted to have Pamela Thibodeaux as our special guest this week - don't forget to watch her trailer and leave a comment to be in the running for this week's draw
“There’s gonna be cowboys, right?” Pink fringe dances from
the arm of her fitted blouse as Mary adjusts her
cowgirl hat.
cowgirl hat.
“There’d better be cowboys.” Mac sucks in her belly. “As
much as I love you all, I didn’t squeeze into thesejeans for you chickies.”
AJ aims her phone and snaps a picture. Mac and Melissa grin
and preen.
Lilly hurries toward the barn in the distance. Gravel
crunches beneath the boots of the other hostesses as they scramble after her. “Pamela
Thibodeaux is our guest this week and she wanted a cowgirl party. You can’t
have a cowgirl party without cowboys.”
Lyn reaches the barn door first and tugs it open. “Oh, wow. Wow,
wow, wow! Would you look at that!”
The hostesses squeeze in close to peer into the interior of the barn. A good, old fashioned ranch gathering is in progress with enough food to feed the county.

Ribs, sausage, pork steaks and brisket, potato salad, baked beans, green salad and
Texas toast fill the long food tables.
Others hold chips and dips as well as homemade cakes, pies and cookies.
Slack jawed, the hostesses’ gazes follow Pamela as she crosses the sawdust covered floor. At least a dozen men in hats, wranglers and boots are bellied up to the makeshift bar. Pamela squeezes into the center of the hunky group.
Melissa elbows AJ, Lilly and Lyn aside to follow. “Make mine
a double.”
Mac grins and hurries to catch up. “Pamela, my friend. This
is going to be some party!”
Here is the blurb for Lori’s Redemption:
Lori Strickland (introduced in Tempered Fire) has always been known as her father's "wild child" with no desire to change until she meets ex-bull-rider-turned-preacher Rafe Judson. Her attempts to change her wanton ways come to naught until she realizes redemption only comes with true repentance. Can the notorious bad girl find redemption & win the cowboy preacher’s heart?
Excerpt:
Rafe Judson made his way to the arena with a smile on his lips, a song in his heart, and the same old limp in his stride. An ex-bull-rider, he still loved everything about the rodeo…the scents—the hay, the horseflesh, the sweat—the excitement, the crowds. As a minister, he didn’t enjoy the accidents or the deaths. He could do without a lot of the language, too.

Remember where you came from old boy.The thought brought with it a quick stab of conviction.I remember, Lord.Wasn’t so long ago he'd cussed and caroused along with the other cowboys. But all that changed with the accident that ended his career as a champion rodeo rider, but opened a whole new world to him, a world filled with faith and optimism.
Far cry from the cynical, bitter cowboy he once was.

What a great party. Good food, good fun and line dancing! I haven't line danced in years. And I hear there are bull riders here. Maybe there's going to be a rodeo too. Yeeha!
ReplyDeleteWell yeah, Lilly, there are bull riders, rodeo cowboys and urban cowboys...all decked out in their best jeans, boots and hats. Gotta love those cowboys ;-)
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by!
PamT
I'll take one of each please...
DeleteYou are a naughty, naughty girl Mary. And you need to learn how to share. lol!
DeleteOoh, I've always loved cowboys! And your book sounds wonderful Pam - andI just love the cover - presumably that's a barrel racer? Anything with horses has me hooked - and remind me to tell you about how I once rode a Fjord barrel racing mare at a rodeo -bareback! (Honest, it really happened)
ReplyDeleteWow Hywela Lyn, I'd love to hear that story! Thanks for stopping by.... and yes, Lori is a barrel racer :-)
ReplyDeleteHi everyone! Good morning. :)
ReplyDeleteI'm a city gal and I don't care much for cowboys or horses so I'm gonna be the oddball out of my element here. Happy Friday though!
Good morning, chickies! Hiya Pamela and welcome to your roast. This whole series sounds interesting and I love me some cowboys too, but I've never ridden a barrel racer like Lyn. :-)
ReplyDeleteBah! That reminds me of a line from 'Teach Me to Ride'. https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/18709809-teach-me-to-ride?from_search=true
DeleteLOL! Actually my 'barrel racing story is a bit embarrassing. Usually a barrel racing pony is ridden with a nice, lightweight round skirted saddle but on this occasion we were expected to ride bareback on Fjords. For those who aren't familiar with barrel racing, you ride the pony as fast as possible around three barrels arranged in a clover leaf pattern. As we made a tight turn around the first barrel, my horse slipped and I felt myself sliding over her shoulder. I reached instinctively for the mane - but Fjords only have a short sticky up mane like a scrubbing brush, nothing to hang on to, so I came off rather ignominiously 'out the side door'. I did get back on and finish the course though, way out of time of course, and I always blush at the memory. I bet Lori did a whole heap better, Pam!
DeletePoor Lyn! I had an Indian Paint pony as I young teen He was not gelded and did not behave when mares were nearby. And once I got my driver's license, I neglected him, My grandfather sold him and it was over a month before I even knew. Still feel guilty about it. Poor pony!
DeleteSheeesh, I was wearing the wrong identity. Silly me.
DeleteI used to go to rodeos in Canada, I was really good at pick up races. Where you pick up a person at high speed and race to the finish. Now if I can find the James Gang, they'd love this party. Especially Jessie, hands off ladies. YeeHah!
ReplyDeleteWanna throw cow pies??
ReplyDeleteLOL Mary, I thought the James Gang would be lurking out there, somewherte! :)
ReplyDeleteThey are, who you kidding, you been chasing them behind mesquite bushes for hours...
DeleteDarn - and I thought they were chasing ME! :)
DeleteWhat was the line Melissa??
ReplyDeleteThe author called the riders "Show Jumpers" which a reader caught and gave her a one star review for. It was a mistake but I thought it was a horrible reason for a one star review, especially give it was an erotica work.
DeleteAhhh, musta been an off day for a mean reader huh?
DeleteAw - I love paints Lilly. (My own mare is a paint QH cross) I hope yours ended up in a good home. It's not a good ide to have an ungelded horse though, unless it's to be used for breeding. That's why I get cross reading historical novels where the heroine always rides a stallion. Not likely, and certainly not very practical!
ReplyDeleteStockings was a sweety...until the neighbors--6 miles down the dirt road--had a pony go into heat. Then, no one could ride him unless they wanted to ride to the Elliott's house. lol! And then, you couldn't get him home without a fight. My grandmother bought him at the stock market for my 13th birthday. Don't know why he wasn't gelded. Unfortunately, I think my grandfather sold him at the stock market and unless someone else wanted a stud paint of unknown age, he probably ended up in dog food or Elmers. ;( Poor Stockings.
DeleteWow Ladies, what some great stories! I love riding barrels although I've never competed, just for fun. So glad y'all have stopped by! Thanks! PamT
ReplyDeleteI need to catch up with you Pam - our paths have crossed on the web from time to time and of course I knew you wrote wonderful inspirational romances, but I didn't realise you rode as well. Horses and writers have a way of finding each other don't they!
ReplyDeleteSure do Hywela! Did you know I now spend about half of the year on a guest ranch in Bandera, TX? Talk about nice!
ReplyDeleteWhere do you live now?
DeleteHow about an excerpt for the after work crowd! Don't forget to use the twitter etc buttons Pam!
DeleteJimminy, am I the only non cowgirl here today?
ReplyDeleteLOL Mac - here put on this Stetson and cowboy boots. You really look the part now - Just concentrate on the cowboys! :)
ReplyDeleteI love the cowboys, and the clothes, Lyn. It's the cow poop and horses I have an issue with. :-)
Deleteoh wow, I'd love to give y'all an excerpt but I'm not home. Been helping a friend move all day and am just checking in from her computer. Hey Mac, don't worry, cowboys love non-cowgirls too ;-)
ReplyDeleteBless their hearts. *rubs hands together and grins*
DeleteHey Mary, I am from Iowa, Louisiana and travel back and forth to Bandera, TX.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great party. Yummy food too. Who doesn't love cowboys? I am not a cowgirl either. I am a city girl. Sounds like a great book.

katsrus(at)gmail(dot)com
Hiya Sue! We may be city chicks but we still appreciate country boys, right? :-)
DeleteSure do!!!
DeleteHi Sue
ReplyDeleteCity girl - country girl - everyone's welcome at the Roast and we love seeing you, Sue. You're right, who could resist a hunky cowboy - I can't and I'm a Brit! :)
They sure are yummy!
DeleteSue B
Hey Sue! Even city girls look good in jeans and cowboy boots. Just look at Melissa. She looks fabulous! And we can't wait for you to get home so you can share another excerpt, Pamela.
ReplyDeleteHey Ladies! Welcome Sue! I never realized how much of a cowgirl I am until I started working at the Silver Spur Guest Ranch in Bandera and going out two-stepping often LOL! But the jeans and boots just feel natural. LOL! I don't own a hat yet...until this picture taken at Christmas @ the Spur, I never thought I looked good in one, but it's on my list to buy. So glad to see y'all all here! PamT
ReplyDeletethe bar-b-que looks heavenly. Great excerpt. Good luck with sales.
