As many of you may know, our beloved sister hostess SHARON DONOVAN, tragically passed away on 11th April 2012. We who knew her, loved her, and were inspired by her courage and determination to face head on whatever life threw at her. When she could no longer see to paint she turned to writing and showed her amazing talent in the Inspirational Romance and Romantic Suspense genres, and her story 'Charade Of Hearts' was awarded the coveted Predators and Editors Award in January 2011.

This Blog was a source of great delight to her, she was one of the founder hostesses and she contributed to the fun and silliness in her own original way, and was kind enough to let her unique creation, the hunky butler 'Oliver' join us for our Friday romp and prepare 'virtual breakfast' for the guests on the following morning. It's beyond hard to have to go on without her, but we know that she would have been the first to insist that 'the show must go on.' She is, and will always be with us in spirit.
Sharon, dear friend, we will never forget you.
The Author Roast and Toast is part of the legacy you left us. Let's raise a Toast to you as well as all our guests.

The Muses get Roasted and Toasted

"Oh this is so exciting," Mary shrieks, as she adjusts the strap of her too-tight bikini top for the hundredth time.

"I can't believe it, some of the muses of inspiration and their authors are actually visiting our Roast!" Mac says.

"Ooh, do hurry up," Lyn urges her sister hostesses, "I bet Terpsichore is there already, and if I'm late she'll never let me hear the end of it!"

"Patsy flexes her biceps, her bikini moulding itself to her statuesque form. "I wonder if bikinis are the right thing to wear in a divine spring? It was nice of them to invite us to have a party at the Spring of Hippocrene wasn' it, isn't it one of the 'springs of Pegasus?"

"That's right," Lyn tells them."The springs are located at the foot of Mount Helicon and the myths say the waters that became the springs of Hippocrene, Pirene and Aganippe gushed forth from beneath the hoof of Pegasus when he struck a rock - " she pauses and frowns at Cuddles who is stamping his little hoof in the dust. "Stop that Cuddles, you're a unicorn, not a Pegasus! Hippocrene means ‘Spring of the Horse'. Pirene means ‘to flow around’ and Aganippe means ‘The Gentle Mare’."

"Ooh get her!" Mary grins, and Lyn treads on her foot, accidentally on purpose,

"Ow!" Mary shrieks, "How come your muse is the muse of dancing, when your own feet are so big and clumsy?"

"These sidekicks of ours had better behave themselves," Mac says frowning at Fraser, and Patsy glances at Hampy, riding on Nibby's back. "We don't want to upset the muses!"

"...or bring down the wrath of their dad, Zeus! Lyn agrees, with a shudder.

"Legend has it that anyone who drinks from the springs or immerses themselves in the waters has poetic inspiration conferred upon them," Patsy says as they approach the springs and see the muses already gathered, and dancing around the crystal clear springs.

"Oh look!" Mac points at Oliver, setting out tables loaded with food, "Oliver's dressed up as Dionyssus!"

"And  - there's ale and Mead!" Lyn exclaims,

"and roasted lamb and

Cretan Dakos,  made from whole wheat and barley with feta cheese and  sweet tomatoes, olives, Imam Baildi, which is eggplants, stuffed with vegetables and feta cheese, and lobster, and cheeses and Domas ...yum!"

and that must be Ambrosia, and Nectar, for the muses, and pom, the muses' favourite fruit!"

Then the hostesses spot some handsome hunks making their way to the springs

Myrddyn

Jim Carrey

"Oooh!" Mary drools. "Hurry sisters, there's man candy - and there's Jim Carrey in the clouds just like the painting ..." Patsy, Mac and Lyn look at each other and shake their heads in despair. "You have a wonderful imagination Mary, and we haven't even bathed in the springs yet!"

The hostesses hurry down to the springs, to welcome the Muses and their authors. Let the party begin!

1. ANCIENT MUSINGS (Calliope)
One's darkness proves the other's light

Bored with her muse duties and unable to
face immortality another day, Calliope, the muse of writing and epic poetry, asks Zeus to end her eternal existence. Zeus sends her to Hades instead. Deep down in the underworld lies a pool from which all life springs. If Calliope can find it, she can request death of Gaia at Gaia's pool.

Deceased twentieth-century

archaeologist's psyche, Jake Genoese, comes to her aid. More from the fact he's riding her coattails. He's embarking on a journey to whatever lies beyond the River Acheron--early. He wasn't buried with an obol to expedite his trip to the afterlife. So, he "borrows" Calliope's.

Oh, to live and never know you've lived...The Sacred Hours sing as passion blooms from ANCIENT MUSINGS.

RG Porter is an Epic Fantasy as well as Supernatural horror author. She wrote her first novel, Shadow of the Wolf, back in 2005, as a way to escape from a chaotic world. Though she never expected her writing to go anywhere, her first novel debuted through Wild Rose Press in 2007. Since then she has continued to write what she is drawn to. Whether it is a world where magic and shape-shifters exist or a place where ever choice could be your last, her imagination weaves those places into stories. Currently she finds herself writing as much as she can. Now branching out into other genres, she plans to release more supernatural horrors as well as completely some of the series that are still outstanding.

Lyn and Harri (Myrddyn's horse)
Lyn is Welsh and very proud of it, although at present she lives away from the wild beauty of her beloved homeland, in a small village in England, surrounded by pretty countryside, with her long-suffering husband.

She loves horses and dogs and has two horses of her own, Harri and T'pau, and a rescued Jack Russell terrier, Bouncer. Hywela and Lyn are her first two names and when she was first published she decided to use them both and drop her surname, since she's always been called `Lyn' and thought it was time her Welsh first name was used. Being easily confused herself, Lyn thought she should explain this to avoid confusing everyone else!
(Unlike her muse, she has no skill at dancing at all:) )

  43. Hi! Sorry I'm late. I fell asleep on the couch. It's 12 hours later here, and I'd been watching that PROMETHEUS movie. Um, NOBODY told me it was an Alien flick. :( I thought aliens NOT "Alien". *rolls eyes* It wasn't bad. I just wasn't expecting the ending--and all the "Hm, they copied that from ALIEN" from my husband! LOL

I'm giving away a KINDLE COPY of ANCIENT MUSINGS. It's the only version available at the moment until the end of November. *wink*

So, I see you've all been dancing on the tables...and rubbing up against hot guys. Since there's no need for more inspiration, *clears throat* I'm just going to grab my candy-corn jar because 'Tis the season and I could use an intravenous sugar jolt.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Hello, Skhye! I actually thought you were ahead of then US and UK timewise! No problem, it's great to see you. Ancient Musings is a fantastic story (literally) as are all the muse stories (I've red 'em all!

Sit down and make yourself comfy, Skhye and partake of some refreshments.

  46. Son wanted to see that movie. I love Alien movies but; I didn't care for that one. Did you know it's the same director that did the Alien movie? I thought they copied a lot too. My son said he heard it was leading up to the Alien movies. I don't know cause I hadn't heard that. And the first Alien movie is my favorite. I fell asleep too. LOL. Have to have my afternoon nap. Did I miss anything really good?

Sue, here you go, a nice chalice of mead. It'll do the the world of good!

  53. Thanks, Lyn (& for hosting us). We are 12 hours ahead (compared to EST in the US). I fell asleep at 9:30 right after the movie ended...I stayed awake to see the end because I had no idea it was part of the Alien saga and wanted to know what was up with that perspective of the universe.

Patsy, I thought the movie had a lot of meat to it. Not gore. But the gore did begin to ring true of Alien. My husband said "Oh, they did that in Alien." LOL Then the creature hatches out of the guy's body at the end. I said "THat looks just like an ALIEN creature." My husband said "I think this is an Alien movie." Well, duh! We just hadn't heard all they hype in our state of moving overseas. Anyway, it was a nice prequel that you only need to see once. ;P And I agree, it was misleading to have the bit at the end...I think they should have just plastered ALIEN PREQUEL on the title shot...

    PROMETHEUS: ALIEN PREQUEL

I loved the idea that "we" went for knowledge and got burned by the sun! LOL

Katsrus, my husband kept saying throughout the movie "The guy who made this movie made ALIEN." LOL So, yes, I did. But we had no idea until that thing busted out of the guy's chest at the end---that is was the ALIEN series' prequel. I was left wondering what the "invitation" was really all about other than bad aliens visited earth in the past for whatever reasons and didn't wipe out humanity. ??? I guess they left that open for Prequel #2?

Where are you MacKenzie? I'm in Perth.

And save me some pomegranates! Although, they are quite messy and stain your hands...I wish I could just learn to eat the seeds. No, I must spit them out! ;P

  54. Well, wind does knock your electricity off when bamboo strikes the power lines in someone else's yard.
When I complained before they told me to pay someone to fix the problem.
    Oliver send help.

    ReplyDelete
  55. BTW Sky, how was the movie? I love to be scared, it takes quite a bit to do it!
Wow, all the muses in one place, it's like a muse reunion!
Go girls! Where are those guys one of you mentioned?
I see lots of empty mead bottles, a drunk, (sorry Lyn, passed out critters and lots of Chaos? Where did he go anyhow?

    ReplyDelete
  56. Gosh Skhye, hadn't realised you were so far ahead of us although I knew it was more than the Us.

Haven't seen Promethius so can't comment. Not sure if I like the sound of it or not actually.

Help yourself to Poms. They are a bit messy, but nice.

    ReplyDelete
  57. Lol Mary *hic* I can take my mead you know! Yes, this place is quite aMUSEing isn't it! Alright, don't groan. You mean you haven't paired off with a hunk yet? You're slipping dear x .

    ReplyDelete
  58. Ahhh... Here I am. I want some of that roast lamb. And a couple dozen dolmas. Got some tatziki to dip the lamb in? I'll have to satisfy myself with some humble kefir because I still have to go out once more and take my youngest daughter to the homecoming game. Oh dear, I'm hungry. I see Ourania made it. *waves* She's having a pom martini? How cosmopolitan of her. Is it good? I never had a martini of any kind.

    ReplyDelete
  59. Hi Masha,

Yes Ourania's been here quite a while actually, respelendant in her new chiton. tatziki coming up.
You must try a pom martini, alcohol at the roast is non tipsy making *Hic* well not much anyway.

It's gone midnight over here so I'll have to go shortly, but y'all welcome to keep the party going over the weekend.

It's wonderful having the muses here at the roast and the hunks are a bonus!

    ReplyDelete
  60. Oh pooh. It's barely 6:30 here and I'm just getting started. I haven't even settled down. Oh, and I brought some homemade baklava. All gooey with local honey. Have at it before I make it disappear.

    ReplyDelete
  61. Oooh Masha, I love honey! Must have some before I go bye-byes, then perhaps I can persuade Terpsichore to lend me Sal to get home!

    ReplyDelete
  62. That's real baklava. I saw her make it. Good thing she didn't need help, because I'm certainly not the Muse of Cooking. *shudders* Housewifery is so not my thing.

    ReplyDelete
  63. Lol Ourania, a muse can't be expected to do menial tasks like that! :) It is delicious though, yum!

    ReplyDelete
  64. YUMMMMMMMM baklava. It's not hurting my cyberhips either!

Mary, that movie wasn't really scary (why I kept thinking it wasn't an Alien flick). The suspense was the biggie. I love love love scary. Oh, like jumping out of my chair/skin with I AM LEGEND. But I wasn't with PROMETHEUS. If you want to see something scary, watch PANDORUM. My daughter and I fought over a blanket to hold over our heads during that one. LOL

  65. Awesome roast. Good food, wine and reading.

  66. I just got a text from Zeus. Apparently Clio is in trouble..AGAIN!!! She's upset Aprhrodite..sigh..I fear the Goddess will never forgive her for feeding grapes to Pierus and kissing him. Can't say that I blame her though. Anyhow...she may get banished to Hades. I need to text Persephone and see what she has decided. Pass the mead!!! Talk about stressful!!!

I just returned from a Halloween carnival with the little ones! Fun!!!

Hey, Lyn..you have some lobster shell stuck in your hair.

    Where's Oliver? Yoohooo, Oliver...

    ReplyDelete
  67. Tell Clio she better shape up or the Harpies will suck her anemo-less in Hades. There's nothing worse than an immortal being irreversibly turned into stone! ;P

    ReplyDelete
  68. Skhye, don't even mention that! That's quite literally a fate worse than death.

    ReplyDelete
  69. *shudders* The Harpies are ABSOLUTELY terrifying.

    ReplyDelete
  70. *elbows Ourania gently in the ribs*

Look! They're so cute, all asleep so early.

    ReplyDelete
  71. Masha, who are you and your alter ego talking about--they're asleep early? The Harpies or people on that side of the globe? ;P

I was inspired to make chocolate cake this morning. DONE. It must have been the snack list here! Although, I prefer the pretend snacks. That way I can gorge on everything! It sure beats being stuck in the underworld with nothing but Asphodel lilies to eat...

    ReplyDelete
  72. Lyn stirs and watches the other hostesses sleeping in a heap with their sidekicks and snoring gently.
Cuddles, Nibby and Hampy all cuddled up together, and Foster using Mac's shoulder as a pillow. Sweet.

The muses of course are up with the dawn and dancing around the springs.

"Ooh," Lyn moans, flicking bits of lobster out of her hair. "I had a horrible dream about harpies. Nasty little critters. Oh look there's some chocolate cake and a bit of left over baklava, yum! Just the thing for breakfast."

Who's that over there? *waves* Hello Slappylilly - another great name! sorry, didn't see you there I must have been asleep. Welcome to the Roast - didn't mean to ignore you!

    ReplyDelete
  73. Mmm. that was nice! Lyn smacks her lips and heads off to the springs - hey what's going on over there? Looks like a skirmish has broken out. The goddesses and Patsy - fighting over Pierus, LOL. And there's poor Ceris all alone, looks like even Robyn and Euterpe have deserted him for the moment. I'll go and keep him company ... show him some of my sketchings!

    ReplyDelete
  74. Good morning everyone. Hope you have a great weekend. I have donuts and coffee.
    Sue B

    ReplyDelete
  75. Hi Sue - for you donuts and coffee!
Hope you have a wonderful weekend too!

    ReplyDelete
  76. *yawn - stretch* I have to have my tea first. Does Oliver make tea, too? With milk and sugar, please.

    ReplyDelete
  77. Oliver makes a pefect cup of tea. You're obviously a girl after my own heart! Two teas with milk and sugar please (no make that honey for me.)

    ReplyDelete
  78. Guess where I learned to drink tea with milk and sugar. It's the universal makes-everything-better drink. It was my English landlady's favored remedy for everything un-right.

    ReplyDelete
  79. Did someone say tea? Oliver, I'd love a cup too.

    ReplyDelete
  80. Ooh I'll have some tea too please. I learned to drink tea in Wales. Go to any Welsh home, especially south wales and you immediately be invited to 'come in and have a cup of tea bach' (Bach being Welsh for 'little one' or 'dear')

    ReplyDelete
  81. In Southampton it was "love" for all females and "mate" for all guys.

    ReplyDelete
  82. *sips tea blissfully* Oliver, you're a treasure.

    ReplyDelete
  83. Brrr...it's cold this morning! I'm drinking hot coffee. I remember seeing someone put milk and sugar into hot tea once and since no one drinks their hot tea like that here in Texas, I knew it must be an "over the pond" thing..something I should try. Still haven't tried it. I hear coffee is not a big drink in the as it is in the states..is that true, Lyn?

Anyhow, now that it is after 9 am here, I'm wondering where Oliver is...oooooooooohhhh..there he is, asleep over there by the springs...he looks absolutely adorable and super hunky with his shirt off, lying in the green grass..isn't he cold? Hmmm...his sexiness must make his blood run warmer.

Oooh and there's Ceris...oh my...why isn't anyone paying him any attention?

*Alisha walks over to him and pretends to trip on a stick and falls smack dab into his rather huge chest. He gives her a wide smile..oh goodness..look how messy his hair is in the morning..and all that stubble...she clears her throat*

Alisha: Forgive me, I'm still half asleep.

*He grumbles something, runs a hand through his hair and smiles again..Alisha thinks she will just faint dead away*

Alisha: So, Ceris..have you ever had tea with milk and sugar?

Ceris: I have. But I like lots of honey in mine. Can I make you a cup? Would you like me to stir you in some honey?

*The world blacks out for a second*

    Um..yeah..I mean..yes, please..will you stir my honey..er..in my tea.

    ReplyDelete
  84. Hello Alisha -
(blushes and grins) Why do you think Ceris looks is so sleepy - and who do you think taught him to take honey in his tea? LOL He's a bit of a 'dark horse' methinks!

As for coffee, I'm not too keen on the stuff myself, unless it's Cappuccinoo. In England they drink it with a little milk and sugar which I think is horrible. In Wales we used to make it with all milk, and sugar. Now I CAN drink it like that!

    ReplyDelete
  85. What's going on here? Yes, tea is delicious. Great with milk and sugar in the morning, or just plain, if it's a very good tea with a lot of delicate flavor. Then it must be served in pretty cups. But nothing is better than Greek coffee, dark as night and strong enough to carry you through whatever the Universe might throw at you.

    ReplyDelete
  86. Each to their own taste I guess. I just can't drink dark plain coffee - but funnily enough, I'm one of the few people who seems to like coffee chocolates!

    ReplyDelete
  87. *clears throat* I drank hot tea all the time in Houston. I only sweetened it. It's my drink of choice these days. Coffee--wellllll, I like lots of creamer with Stevia. ;P If I want some Coffeemate Hazelnut or Vanilla creamer here in Australia, I have to pay $4 for 10 little liquid servings!!! That doesn't last long. LOL So, I don't do much coffee over here. In Australia, they buy INSTANT coffee and laugh at Americans who buy coffeepots. Yes, the instant coffee (no creamer/sugar) tasks horrible. And the instant flavored coffee with creamer/sugar tastes slightly better. I still have to add Stevia to it. But most things here that should have sugar taste like they contain about 50% less! It's not that big of a deal unless you buy Oreos or something that's supposed to taste "right" and sadly falls short.

It sounds like someone's spiked the tea around here...All that tripping! LOL

    ReplyDelete
  88. I just came back to get my shoes. Don't ask and here I see you all still partying on! You Muses rock, and really know how to throw a party. But, I still haven't found a free guy since I came here!

    ReplyDelete
  89. Oh man I would be lost without my coffee pot. I hate instant coffee. Only drink when I am desperate. LOL.
    Sue B

    ReplyDelete
  90. Skhye - I hate to think what you'd say about out British coffee. Most people use instant over here as well although if you're 'posh' you use a peculator. Can't really comment as I hardly ever drink the stuff myself - and I only discovered Oreos when dear Sharon sent me some!

Mary, sweetie, where HAVE you been? When the Muses are abroad, anything can happen and the party doesn't end until the fat lady sings (which could be awkward as there aren't any fat ladies around.)

Poor Ceris was feeklng a bit lonely and looking for you - but I think he's OK now. We all thought you'd gone off with the Ja,es gang, LOL.

    ReplyDelete
  91. Ditto what I said to Skhye, Sue! :)

    ReplyDelete
  92. You never had Oreos before? Those are my favorite. I love sweets. LOL. I would have a hissy fit if I didn't have my cookies. Has anyone seen the Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter movie? I want to rent it. It looked good to me. I saw mixed reviews.
    Sue B

    ReplyDelete
  93. When I came over to the States in May for a trip to meet Sharon's family, with Mary, we swopped a few notes and it's surprising the things that I'd never heard of that are commoplace in the US. But then a lot of Americans don't really know what a haggis is and don't know that Welsh rarebit (often mispronounced Welsh Rabbit) is actually cheese on toast!

    ReplyDelete
  94. I KNOW WHAT THOSE THINGS ARE, LYN! ;P I am surprised about the instant coffee in the UK. IT's vile in the US. We were forced to drink it I think in the 60s until the populace rebelled. I think that would equate to the Coffee Mutiny. *snort* Just joking. But it was trendy to drink instant for a decade or so until the oldtimers got sick of the toxic stuff. I have a percolator and regular coffee pot. ;P

I haven't seen that movie, Katsrus. I laughed when I saw the previews and thought they'd run out of vampire story fodder! But, who knows? It might be good. Cowboys vs. Aliens was, um, okay. The last movie I saw that just blew me away was The Hunger Games. It set me off reading the series and working on my next WERESCAPE novel (taking place in the 3rd realm--The Damned with the humans used by aliens aboard their spacecraft). So, let me know if that's a good flick!

Oreos. Hm. I still didn't get a pack of candy-corn Oreos this year! *whaaaaa* But they have Honeycomb TimTams in this country so I'm happy happy happy. And thank goodness there are only 9 cookies in a pack. Or I'd eat 30 or however many were in there in one sitting.
Honeycomb Timtams are mighty inspiring!!! It's like eating chocolate-covered ambrosia...

    ReplyDelete
  95. LOL, I'm sure you do Skhye - but it'surprising how many Brit outside of Wales get it wrong! :) As for Oreos, I've never seen the candy corn ones over here, they sound amazing, I have a very sweet tooth! Sadly I think instant coffee has appealed to the 'instant and throwaway' society we live in nowadays, to the detriment of the real stuff!
