As many of you may know, our beloved sister hostess SHARON DONOVAN, tragically passed away on 11th April 2012. We who knew her, loved her, and were inspired by her courage and determination to face head on whatever life threw at her. When she could no longer see to paint she turned to writing and showed her amazing talent in the Inspirational Romance and Romantic Suspense genres, and her story 'Charade Of Hearts' was awarded the coveted Predators and Editors Award in January 2011.

This Blog was a source of great delight to her, she was one of the founder hostesses and she contributed to the fun and silliness in her own original way, and was kind enough to let her unique creation, the hunky butler 'Oliver' join us for our Friday romp and prepare 'virtual breakfast' for the guests on the following morning. It's beyond hard to have to go on without her, but we know that she would have been the first to insist that 'the show must go on.' She is, and will always be with us in spirit.
Sharon, dear friend, we will never forget you.
The Author Roast and Toast is part of the legacy you left us. Let's raise a Toast to you as well as all our guests.

Autumn Jordon Takes Paris by Storm!

The evening in Paris is a wonderful thing indeed. Mary, Lyn and Sharon are dressed to the nines! Sharon in a short black dress that shows off her fantastic legs. She's ready to dance the night away. Lyn looks fabulous in a sequined blue blouse and jeans, her tiny waist enhanced by the black belt she chose. Mary loves her emerald empire waist evening boustierre. It's shows off her best asset, perfectly. Her jeans fit like a glove.

"I love this place," exclaims Lyn. "Did you know that the French are the best kissers? That's why it's called French Kissing!"

Mary and Sharon look at each other and crack up laughing. Mary hugs Lyn. "Yes, sister dear, that's nice."

The French are so friendly and the hostesses have spent the day sightseeing. They have been to the Tower, strolled down the Champs Elysees, saw the Arc de Triumphe and taken a boat cruise on the Seine.
They spent some time in the country. Lovely wild flowers bloom along the roadsides and the air is filled with the scent of fresh cut grass and honeysuckle. They are thrilled to be in Paris.
They've decided on a simple fare. Imported cheeses from all over the world, beautiful trays of fresh fruits line the tables, fresh crispy french bread and crackers wait for eager guests.

The drink special today features Oliver's delicious Martinis, every kind from Chocolate to traditional. They are staying at the Gare de Lyon Hotel and, again in front of the massive mirror in one fancy bathroom, they shove and push to get their makeup on. Sharon has bought makeup for all of them from a street vender and little do they know what ingredients are in it. There could be some trouble with that?
"These huge penthouse rooms are wonderful don't you think Sharon?" Mary sits and watches Sharon as she sprays herself with Samsara. Lyn chooses Sung, and hands Mary her favorite, Wings. Lyn sprays so much Sung in the bathing room, that their eyes start to tear up.

A knock at the door to the huge suite and Oliver yells out to warn them the guests are arriving.

At the door is the guest of honor, Autumn Jordan. She is dressed in a lovely cashmere tunic sweater, calf length jeans and she is barefoot. As a matter of fact everyone is barefoot. "You leave your shoes at the door," Lyn points out to the guests. Autumn curls up, on the corner of a sprawling couch and accepts the Martini from Oliver.

Oliver offers Autumn her 'Midnight In Paris' Martini, his deep voice, sexy, and having spent time in France he uses his best French accent. His warm voice pauses and then he offers Autumn her book.

"Could you autograph this for me." He takes Autumn's hand and kisses it. Then he leaves to bring out the lovely cake he baked for her. It looks yummy and Lyn has to drag Mary away from it, while Sharon swipes a dollop on her finger and smiles at the sweet, tasty, confection.

Several of the guests are locals. Their rich French accents fill the air. The girls are elated.

"Everyone please may I have your attention?" Sharon calls to the crowd. Voices drop off and Sharon goes on.

"This lovely gathering is to celebrate the release of Autumn Jordan's wonderful new book, Evil Witness." She holds it up for everyone to see. "Please pick up your copies and have Autumn sign them before you leave."

The crowd begins to speak again and soft music and voices drown out Sharon's last words. "Let the celebration begin!"

Little does anyone know, Lyn is undercover. Working for the Lourvre, she is searching for a stolen DiVinci painting, and someone in this room has it.

Do you know who has the Museums painting and how can we catch them?

Stephanie Boyd’s world crashes when she and her children witness a blood bath. To escape the wrath of the Russian Mafia, she has no choice but to help the FBI uncover the mafia’s mole inside the U.S. Treasury. While on the run with the handsome agent who is willing to die for them, Stephanie learns the meaning of love.

Agent John Dolton’s break in solving the case that cost him everything is a couple of kids and a beautiful widow. But keeping them safe seems impossible when their every move is foreseen by their enemy.  Stephanie and her children soften the loner’s heart and John vows not to fail to protect the family he comes to love.

EXCERPT

“Are you going to tell me what Ben Stover had to say?” She dreaded hearing the news he’d learned. It couldn’t be good. He would’ve told her good news immediately.

“They lifted the prints from the guy at the mall and ran them through the system. Ben had a hit. A small time thief named Doug Antonelli, a.k.a. Dog. So you were right about his name. But, we haven’t had any luck searching the data banks for a Victor, yet.”

She held on to a glimmer of hope. “You think you will though?”

He nodded. “This guy didn’t just fall to earth with a plan to rob the U.S. Treasury of millions. He has to have come from somewhere—have some kind of record. We’ll find him. It’s just going to take some time.”

“I won’t be stupid and ask how much?”

“I appreciate that.” He smiled. As if realizing for the first time that she was washing dishes, he said, “I told you I’d do those, Steph.”

She’d noted before he’d shortened her name. She kind of liked the nickname.

“That’s okay. This is therapy.” Stephanie shrugged and smiled at him as she rinsed another plate. “After the last twenty-four hours, I really needed to do something normal.”

“I understand. I do the same thing when I’m done with a case.”

Her hands stilled under the warm water. “You do?”

“You look surprised.” He set his mug down, snatched the tea towel from the counter and started to dry the dishes from the rack.

Gene had never helped her with the dishes.

She washed and John dried. It was kind of nice standing side by side, talking, even though some of their conversation dealt with their lives being at stake. But there was something about a man wearing a gun, drying dishes that struck her as funny. Especially a barefooted one.

She chuckled and he looked confused. “What?

“I’m sorry. It’s just you’re FBI.” Her cheeks warmed, again, the moment the idiotic words spilled from her mouth.

“We have lives too. We don’t wait in sterile closets for the next case.” He laughed with her.

She liked his laugh and the way his eyes sparkled.

“Well, actually, I sort of had this picture of you in a smoke filled room, playing cards, waiting for the call. Then going to the sterile room to be briefed on the high-tech gadgets you’ll use on your mission.”

“You’ve got it all wrong. I haven’t played cards in years.”

“Oh, I see. That’s the only part wrong?”

“Well, yeah.”

“Hmm.” Stephanie’s heart pounded so hard in her chest she thought for sure John would hear it over the steady stream of tap water.

He wore no ring. She wanted to ask him if there was a Mrs. Dolton, but she didn’t have the nerve.

“Are you going to tell me what Ben Stover had to say?” She dreaded hearing the news he’d learned. It couldn’t be good. He would’ve told her good news immediately.

  1. Welcome to your party, Autumn! Paris is so lovely and we are in for a fun time today. You look so pretty in your cashmere. And I can't wait to sample some of the French cheese and wine. Oliver, bring some for Autumn and I so we can have a toast. Cheers! Evil Witness sounds like another for the TBR list, for sure! Now where are Mary and Lyn? Out looking for French kisses? Wink!

  6. Hi Autumn, Paris is lovely this time of year isn't it?
And you sweater and jeans are just wonderful, I've never seen a sweater so soft before.
Your excerpt is fantastic. I predict big sales for this one!!
Mary suggests they hide the strawberries from Lyn. She will eat them all. That's probably what she's doing as we speak.
What great cheese you can get in Europe isn't it?
    Ooh La La!

    ReplyDelete
  7. Lyn has her gadgets with her. Could it be she is a spy? No that's not possible. She must be working undercover, because I just heard her shoe talking!

    ReplyDelete
  8. I'm glad you could join me in Paris, Elisa. Isn't this fun. Try the cake. Have Oliver serve you a morsel.

Thank you so much for buying Evil's Witness. I need reviews up on B&N or Amazon, so if you like EW be a doll and please say so.

  9. Welcome, Elisa, Patsy and Sandra! We are are so thrilled to be in Paris to celebrate with autumn and her release of Evil's Witness! I can't decide what to do first!
Autumn, yes I certainly feel that way with a contract. It is so exciting and overwhelming at the same time! Oliver is a gem and we all share in his sheer male delight, don't we! Yum. He's actually my cyber butler on my blog and I bring him here to moonlight on Fridays at the Author R&T with my lovely sister hostesses Mary and Lyn. Speaking of the handsome devil, here he comes now with wine and French kisses. Oh, be still my heart! Oh, there for Autumn??? Pout pout!

    ReplyDelete
  10. I'll look for her. She has been acting very strange lately hasn't she Sharon? Something is going on in Paris.
So Autumn tell us where you got the idea for your story. Where did the idea come from?
I'm glad I took my shoes off. But maybe that's what is worrying Lyn? You know the feet thing and all.
Aren't you upset you couldn't go to RWA. Paris is too far away.

    ReplyDelete
  11. P.L., You can have both and some great cheese to boot.

I love wine, but today i'm staying with the Midnight In Paris Martinis. I discovered them recently at a wedding. YUMMY, like Oliver. I wonder if I can take him home.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Oliver you are such flirt.
But we know you only have eyes for Sharon.
I can't wait to see who shows up today!

    ReplyDelete
  13. Mary, there you are! Isn't this fun? And we get to wear all the cool clothes from the lovelyFrench boutique? Where is Lyn and her gadget? Hmmm...I'm sure she isn't the spy, not our Hywela! I need to go get some more chocolate for Oliver's martinis. I'll be back unless I find a French kisser! LOL

    ReplyDelete
  14. Oh, a beret. I must have one of those too. We must go shopping together, Sandra. And lunch. Can we delay our flights back to laundry land.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Shopping and a visit to one of those cute sidewalk cafes! You know what happens in Paris stays in Paris will apply LOL

    ReplyDelete
  16. LOL. Lyn is the spy. No. Can't be. But then maybe the strawberries aren't strawberries. Hmmm. I'll have to go see.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Please don't tell my DH Oliver is being so attentive, Sharon. Wait, DH understands my heart belongs to him and I have to do somethings for the sake of promotion for my books.

    Oh, Oliver. Another martini please.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Ah, Mary. Lyn is okay. Believe me.

Okay, Evil's Witness came about because we had several incidents occurr at our family business, which is trucking, within a short time. We hauled funds for the US Treasury and we had a truck-trailer carrying fruit juice highjacked about the same time. Trucks are targeted more than you might think. I just put the two together and thought what would happen if I along with my kids would have seen the robbery. Who would I go to and where could i hide.

    ReplyDelete
  19. This is the hottest party in town! Please Oliver bring me a gin martini and a copy of Evil's Witness that I can begin reading when I retire to my elegant hotel room.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Hail all. Oh wowwww, how kewl is this? Paris! I'm getting an ereader for my birthday in August, not sure which one Kindle or Nook??? and then I'm reading Autumn's super new book and others I've accumulated.

    ReplyDelete
  21. What happens in Paris, stays in Paris. You hear that, ladies. Sandra made the rule. WINK

We should go to the Eiffel tower later. I'm don't like heights, but I'm only going to be in Paris once. Maybe.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Oh, know you don't. (Pulling on Nightgale's arm.) No retiring to your own room. Shame on you. We know what you have in mind, asking Oliver to bring you a copy of Evil's Witness. You're going have him start reading at page 168.

Maybe we should have him read here. Now.

    ReplyDelete
  23. yn arrives puffing slightly, with a bowl of chocolate dipped strawberries. She hugs her sister hosteses and Autumn

Hi Autumn, welcome to your party, and congratulations on your book, I just loved the excerpt. You look so chic in your chashmere off the shoulder sweater. Oh, where are my manners, do have a strawberry. Err, perhaps not that one, I don't think it's quite ripe - try this plump luscious one here. Oliver's been very busy with the refreshments, hasn't he. Oh thank you Oliver dear, yes I will try one of those Parisien Martinis you prepared especially for Autumn. Mmm, I must sit down, my feet are killing me. (She whispers behind her hand - Autumn the hostesses always buy me shoes that are miles too big for me and they really rub. Bless their hearts, they mean well, they're just a teeny bit jelous that my feet are so much smaller than theirs

    ReplyDelete
  24. Oh no! Ladies, see that weird little man waiting on the balcony? He asked if I was enjoying Autumn's interview. I said "wee, wee," answering in the affirmative Parisian style. He apparently didn't understand and well...let's just say I'd hate to be the folks beneath the balcony. LOL Oliver, can you go evict that man?

    ReplyDelete
  25. Cheers, Di!! I have my signed copy of Evil's Witness and I can't wait to read it. Oliver looks yummy. Enjoy your day in Paris. :)

    ReplyDelete
  26. Awesome, Beth. Happy Birthday early. I want an e-reader so bad. Maybe for my birthday in November.

Did I tell you I had a woman from Indonesia at my blog the other day? I was so excited. The cyber-world is crazy.

I love making new freinds, and man, I'm learning awesome things about our world.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Oh, thnaks. I love chocolate covered anything. (eyeing Oliver)

Tiny feet. Well, they won't get jealous over these yard sticks (showing off my size 8s) Do you like my polish?

(Leaning toward Lyn) You know you really shouldn't say things like that, about the strawberry, if you are a spy. People will know.

Let you in on a secret. There's a strand of hair in the apartment that is not a strand of hair. Shhhh

    ReplyDelete
  28. Only in Paris, SS. At the Eiffel Tower only use when wee. LOL.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Hey, Kathy! Stay, have a drink and enjoy the party and Oliver. We're having a great time.

No one wants Oliver to read? I think he'd be great.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Lol Autumn (whisper) You don't really think Im a spy do you? *wink*

    ReplyDelete
  31. Lyn are you still carrying that bowl of strawberries around?
Are you wearing the shoes that have the gadget in them? You know the new one. The one in your shoes.
Poor Lyn she doesn't know that her feet are size 13. We bought her smaller shoes but they don't fit. We don't want to hurt her feelings because we love her. But she could make a great gadget to put into them for sure. Last week we found out she is a spy. But don't tell anyone.
Autumn, thank Goodness what happens in Paris stays in Paris, because there is some wild stuff going on here!

    ReplyDelete
  32. We aren't supposed to tell anyone Lyn is working undercover! It could be very dangerous.
But I do adore the boutiques they have here, I love the clothes don't you? And the food here is rich with sauces and wine.
But I wonder who took the Di Vinci painting from the Lourvre? I know whoever took it is here. How can we help Lyn? We need to catch a thief!

    ReplyDelete
  33. Mary has got me wondering. Hmmm. (Whisper back) You think you could get me in? I'm clean and my kids and DH won't be looking for me until later this afternoon.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Hey, Mar. I'm not a show person. That is why I'm barefooted. And being so, make sit easier for Oliver to rub my toosies.

    GIGGLE

    ReplyDelete
  35. Bonsoir - I am sitting sipping an apperitif at the Bar Julie et Jean on the Champs Elysse just by the lovely perfume store. I hope you gals can come and join me. You will recognise me as I am wearing a black silk skirt and a striped sweater - a red beret on my head and a long, long cigarette holder -a tout a l'heure! PS Don't forget to bring Oliver.

    ReplyDelete
  36. I just stopped by to see Oliver and have a nice drink of Oli--I mean wine, and maybe some of that Oli--cheese.

Oh, hi, ladies. Have a great party.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Isn't Paris just wonderful. The men are so gentlemanly and kiss my hand. I love it! This boustierre is much too tight, my hooters are overflowing. And Sharon you look lovely too. Yes, I wish Lyn would clue us in too. She's so secretive.
But I must say you have a wonderful bunch of guests. Look Linda Nightingale is dancing on a table. I hope she is sober. We don't want her stripping. Oh! and I haven't seen Sandra in a while. This party is hoppin'!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  38. Autumn let's see if Lyn will let us in on things. Lyn?

    ReplyDelete
  39. Why of course, Autumn. You have the secret password, no?

Margaret, how nice to see you. Why don't you hop on over and join us at the party. Oliver is -um - a bit busy at the moment, but he'll be glad to serve you one of his special Martinis.

Hi Liz - norhing like a bit of wine and cheese, eh?d

    ReplyDelete
  40. Now Mary you know how it is - walls have ears! Let me whisper - I weel say theese only once ......!

    ReplyDelete
  41. More guests. I feel like such a star today.

Ah, Margaret, you sound like you know Paris very well. Please do as Lyn asks and join us. We want to know where are the hottest spots after night?

Liz, stay. (Grabbing your hand and pulling you to the bar where Oliver is serving whatever your heart desires.) How can you look at those gourgous eyes and say. "I gonna run."

Mary, little secret, I don't do bras either. My God, where am I going to hide my gadget?

And Linda better be careful. Oliver grab her.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Wait, Lyn. I couldn't hear. Linda was singing to Oliver.

    ReplyDelete
  43. This is so exciting! There is a crook here and Lyn is on the trail!
I'll keep quiet I promise. Autumn has experience in these things, let's get her in on it. Who could it be?
Wait!!!! It's you know who stopping by to say hello! The Duke! Man he looks buff and he is asking to be introduced to Autumn.
I wonder if someone's heart throb Jessie James will stop by.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Linda has a big grin on her face and she is walking into walls. Did Oliver give her a kiss. I thought he was just serving today. I didn't know he was a kissing fool.
This is only a part time job for him. Sharon hired him years ago and he and she are inseparable. But darn he is a kissing flirt!
Lyn how is the case coming. Are you using your shoe gadget?

    ReplyDelete
  45. OOOHhhh! It was Jessie James kissing her. Whoo Hooo! Hot!
I'll have a martini now. I need it.
Strawberry please and I'd like one of those chocolate strawberries.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Jesse huh? Well, my heart belongs to James. He plays baseball and looks ah so good in his uniform.

    Is the AC on?

    ReplyDelete
  47. I'll keep my eye on the Duke. SLAP.

I don't think he's the spy. He's too willing to show all. WINK

Maybe it's Sandra. She is wearing shades.

Okay, we're in Paris and have a question. Does a male french accent do it for you or is there another?

    ReplyDelete
  48. Personally I like a Scottish accent. Like Jamie in Voyager. There are several videos with Gerard Butler. He makes the best Jamie and I'm stuck on him.
But the Duke can speak French. And he seems to be following you around Autumn.
It is quite warm in here, they told me it was 70 degrees in here. But that can't be right. All these hot Frenchmen must be giving off the heat.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Sharon bounces in barefoot sporting a hat with a feather from aFrench boutique. Anyone want to guesswhere I was? Wink wink...oh...sorry Oliver. I forgot the chocolate for the martinis. What's that Autumn? Okay, talked me into a Midnight Blue martini!

    ReplyDelete
  50. Autumn, your book sounds scary and yummy. I've always wanted a tour of Paris. Thanks for the invitations.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Sharon waves to all the new party guests. Good show, Oliver, taking care of all the ladies, especially Autumn! Mary, did you bring the Duke in your suitcase? He seems to show up on every roast. Lyn, I know who the spy is and where the painting is. But me lips are sealed. We we

    ReplyDelete
  52. Beth, Happy Birthday early. When is it in August? Autumn, did you say yours is in November? So is mine! We Pennsylvania girls have a lot in common, yes? We we

    ReplyDelete
  53. We We Sharon. HEHEHE!
    It's oui!
I guess the Duke just likes our roast and toast, and he's awfully nice to our guests.
It's Jessie that worries me! He might be involved in this stolen painting incident? Lyn stop kissing him and let us know!

    ReplyDelete
  54. Sharon - how are you doing with the clues? I need to have a word with Autumn, the plot is getting thicker than the whipped cream on that cake!

Youd've hidden the gadget where no-one can find it? Good. The thief may think they've got away with it, but we're on the trail!

Hello Caroline, and any new guests. It's getting so crowded in here I can't tell who's who any more. Oliver, sisters, I hope you didn't let anyone put anyuthing in my drink!

    ReplyDelete
  55. So Autumn is anyone coming from your RWA chapter?
How is the search going for the painting. I think Lyn is deeply involved in this mystery and I am a bit worried about her. She jumps in to fight the bad guys and she doesn't even have a weapon. Her feet are a help in kick boxing, but she needs a, dare I say it, gun!!

    ReplyDelete
  56. No we need you straight and sober for this mission. Everyone here is in danger. This is no simple thing, it's a caper indeed!

    ReplyDelete
  57. How am I coming along with my clues Lyn? LOL I'm clueless. Wink wink we we
Never fear Mary and Autumn, the real painting is safe. My lips are sealed. Just know that a thief lurks in dark shadows and no one here can save us, not even a kick box with one of Lyn's clods! Mary, you can always hurl your fake hooters at him! Autumn, do you have any silicone parts to use as a lethal weapon?

    ReplyDelete
  58. Well Sharon why don't you just sit on him? Or her?
Between my magic hooters, your butt and Lyn's clodhoppers, we'll get em!!
    Go sisters, go!
The Duke says to look at the guests
one of them is the crook!

    ReplyDelete
  59. You ladies are a whoot. I like your hat Sharon.

Mary, you must control the Duke. Local chaptermate Kathy buzzed in here a while ago and most of RS sisters are in Orlando, having a blast. WHINE

Silcone? Heck no. God blessed me in many ways. But I'm a huge Steeler fan (of course) and I've handled 60 truckers and have connections to the FBI, so I guess I can take out one little spy.

Where did Linda go? And can I please have another martini, Oliver?

    ReplyDelete
  60. I think it's Beth. It's always the quiet ones.

    ReplyDelete
  61. I'm glad that you have experience with crooks!
Autumn I am so jealous of everyone who went to RWA! Darn, I never have any luck.
The Duke is just a little fresh. It's Jessie James that is really fresh. Lyn controls him. He's in love with her!
But the crook could be dangerous, they have a gun!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  62. Sit on him? With my tiny behind? Come now, Mary, you must get over your insane jealosy. My petite little form could never knock out a fly. Steelers? Take out 60 men Autumn? I stand in awe. We we...Oliver, this calls for a round of MBM for all of us. We are amongst woman hear us ROARRRRRRR!

  63. I am getting in the cab right now -should be with you very soon.

The traffic is horrendous - wait for me, please!

    ReplyDelete
  64. We'll have the doorman look for you Margaret. The party is rockin'!!

    ReplyDelete
  65. Wow! This party is rockin'. Wait till the after work crowd arrives, maybe someone can help find the thief. We'll do a triple attack. I will lure them with my hooters, Lyn can stomp them, and Sharon will sit on them. I can whack them with my boobs if that don't work. We are a team!
So Amber how about a another Excerpt to tease your fans!

    ReplyDelete
  66. Hi folks, I'm baclk - did you miss me?

Jesse and I were -er- inspecting he upstairs bedrooms - we will leave no crook nor nanny, sorry I mean nook or cranny - unturned in order to find the thief!

(How are you doing Autumn, I do hope you're being looked after - have you tried the cake yet?) I had to tie dusters to Jesse's feet to make sure he didn't give the game away in his cowboy boots. My dainty little feet make no sound of course (whisper, my feet are so much smaller than the other two, Mary and Sharon are terribly jealous poor things and always make out my feet are big, I just play along, wouldn't want to hurt their feelings!)

Oh, I wish I could go to Orlando too! Trouble is, it's a rather long way to swim acaross the pond! LOL

Oh, was that the bell, yes, I see Oliver's rushing down to see - it might be Margaret!

    ReplyDelete
  67. I'm going to be hanging out all night long, so no worries, Margaret. Remember leave your shoes at the door. No worry if you don't have your toosies polished. We're going to work on the Duke and see if he's up for the job.

    ReplyDelete
  68. Autumn don't tell Lyn about her feel. She's delusional sometimes, but we let her think that her clodhoppers are small. Heck they gave us oars with her last pair.
But she hides gadgets in there, so that may account for one size, but that's it. She is so beautiful we don't mind any flaws. We all have them and we three use them to our advantage!
Oliver could you whip up a chocolate Martini, very small one, for Celia to try please.

    ReplyDelete
  69. Okay, Mary. We're going to cut off your drinks. Amber, huh.

You want another excerpt. Okay, let's see.. Here you go.

After a week, her touch was familiar. His heart melted. He grabbed her hand, holding her in place as he turned and smiled down on her. Her nipples pushed against her white T-shirt. He gently brushed a knuckle across one peak. “No. It was hell without you.”

“Mmmm. Same here.” She pulled back and lifted his arm around her, curling into him. Looking out over the lake, she sighed. “I could stay here forever, if you’d let me.”

“I wish we could.” He gathered her closer and kissed the top of her head. “But eventually Bobby and Em would have to go to school.”

“I could home school.” Her chuckle was strained.

He felt her pain. He smiled while his heart wrenched. He would like nothing more than to forget about the world and stay here with her and the kids. But they couldn’t. “Sooner or later Ben will call. We’ll have to go back.”

    “I know.”

Steph moved away. A cold void took her place.

She drifted to the other porch column. Leaning against it, she folded her arms across her chest. Her lips pressed together as if she was forming the right words behind them. “I know I said that our time together here was going to be enough to last me a lifetime, but—” Tears brimmed her lids. “I was wrong. A lifetime won’t be enough.”

John stepped toward her. “I don’t know what—”

“I know; you don’t know how we can be together. So, Ben will call. We’ll go back, and I’ll identify Victor. You’ll toss him in jail and throw away the key. You’ll drive off in pursuit of the next bad guy and me…Well, I’ll go home and wonder where you are. Wonder if what I felt was love.”

The woman knew how to make a guy feel like a heel.

John pulled her into his arms. She buried her head in his chest and cried softly against him. He kissed her head and smoothed her hair. “Steph, I didn’t think I’d ever love again,” he whispered softly, cupping her chin and tilting her face up until she looked at him. “Like a bomb, you dropped into my life. Every defense I’d put up to protect myself from ever being hurt again came tumbling down. You opened up my heart. As much as you don’t want to live without me, I don’t want to live without you. I love you.”

He kissed her gently. Her arms wrapped around him and held on. “Somehow, we’ll figure this out. I promise,” he assured her.

  71. That was feet not feel. Entirely different!
This party goes on all weekend, so everyone has time to come and support you Autumn.
So how is the undercover job going Lyn? No, not the one with Jessie. I mean the one looking for the painting?

    ReplyDelete
  72. HeHeHe, you too Autumn, although I don't drink I am so high and happy for you about your new release. Sounds wonderful. Where did you get the inspiration for the story and characters?
By the way Autumn that cashmere sweater is gorgeous and musta cost plenty! So flattering, I must tell you.

    ReplyDelete
  73. Yes, Margaret, hurry ad stop by. Oliver has a drink with your name on it. Mary, stop calling Autumn Amber or you'll give the secret away. Shhhh. Lyn winks wildly and stares at her feet.

    ReplyDelete
  74. What a gripping excerpt, Autumn...draws me right in!

    ReplyDelete
  75. Sorry about that Autumn, they always pick on me when I make the slightest error. And both of them, well just use your imagination.
Now who has the stinkin' painting!

    ReplyDelete
  76. Hi all, I was invited over for a Midnight in Paris martini...served by Oliver!

Plus I wanted to stop in to congratulate Autumn and say hi *waving madly above the crowd of people waiting for her autograph.*

    ReplyDelete
  77. This old thing. I just grabbed it and tossed it on. If I knew you three were going to dress to the nines, I'd gone shopping beforehand with Sandra. She must still be looking for the perfect beret.

    I love your boustierre,BTW, Mary.

I already told you where the idea for Evil's Witness cam from, but you also asked me about my characters. I'm a huge 24 fan too. I love Jack Bauer. He was the inspiration for my hero, John Dolton. Stephanie, well, she's a small town girl like me. Thinking of the Russian Mafia in my back yard sents shivers up my spine.

If you'd like to see a trailer, go to http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E_WrmpGf4l8

I made it myself and really am pretty proud.

  78. Great excerpt Autumn, it's made me go all soggy! This sounds like a really gripping read!

Well I'm picking up lots of clues regarding the mystery of the missing paining, but of course my lips are sealed!

    ReplyDelete
  79. Welcome J and here comes Oliver with a Midnight martinie! Autumn, the idea of a Russian mofia is downright chilling. Brrr

    ReplyDelete
  80. Some one asked for recipe for the Martini's. Oliver.

    In his deep voice..

    Equal Parts
    Raspberry Vodka
    Chambord (Raspberry Liquor)
    Sour Mix
    Garnish with Raspberries & Blackberries

    Simple.

    ReplyDelete
  81. OMG, J Hali made it. (((HUGS)))(((HUGS)) It's so good to see you.

Thanks for the congrats. It was a long time coming, but we wouldn't talk about that long road. It ended well and that is what counts.

I'm so glad you popped over. Have a drink. Oliver.

    ReplyDelete
  82. I know, Sharon. They are ruthless. My research made me cringe at times.

    ReplyDelete
  83. Oh look. The moon is coming up along the Eiffel Tower. So pretty.

    ReplyDelete
  84. Oliver, mix up another batch of those delicious martinis for the after work crowd. Hop to it, dearheart! We are all thirsty after Autumn's latest excerpt. Hot!

    ReplyDelete
  85. I missed that one. Lyn has me taking notes so I'm lost sometimes!
But Mafia, Ahhhhh! Scary. I know someone who lost everything to the Russian Mafia!

    ReplyDelete
  86. Great trailer by the way. Very nice everyone! Go take a look. You can really get the feel of the book from it Autumn! Good Job!

    ReplyDelete
  87. No, I have a friend who married into a wealthy family. When the father of her husband died, his two lawyer sons got involved with them somehow. They lost everything. Including the money set aside in trust for each grandchild, everything!
Her husband died of brain cancer and the brothers took all the money. She got nothing from them that she was entitled to including a 250,000 life insurance policy. They were the lawyers for the insurance company and the just made her drop her claim or else. She was so afraid she gave up. Raised her three children on her own and got a Masters In education. Strange huh?

    ReplyDelete
  88. That sounds like a rotten deal Mary.

Well I'm still searching for that missing painting. Can anyone help me. (Lyn looks in the direction the guests and waves madly.'

By the way, no need to leave the bulding to watch Autumns wonderful video - it's right there on the blog - underneath the excerpt!

    ReplyDelete
  89. Lyn you are certainly teckkie!Thank goodness for that! We love your gadgets. HeHe!
No matter where you decide to hide them.
Boy Autumn you have some party going on here. I am just concerned that Sharon will try to save the day and end up getting shot by the crooks. So we have to find her and we have to get that crook!!!
Who could it be. Is it one of our guests at the party??? My, my!!

    ReplyDelete
  90. Lyn blushes modestly. "Oh it was nothing, really! Talking about gadgets, do you really think Sharon might be in danger?

Autumn, I think we could do with some assistance from your John here!

Not to worry Mry, I dont write futuristic for nothing, this brooch is really a laser!

    ReplyDelete
  91. Very disturbing, Mary. You hear about these things but having them happen to someone you know is scary.

    ReplyDelete
  92. We thought you were in danger Sharon. Glad they didn't get you. Whew! I'd be freaking out!!
But we are thinking, one of the guests is the criminal.
Lyn is ready, I'm ready, Sharon, let the ART trio loose on em'.
    Any ideas Autumn?
    Hmmmmm.

    ReplyDelete
  93. I still think it's Beth. Oh, wait. Maybe Sandra. No.No. Margaret. She has connections in Paris. I know it.

    ReplyDelete
  94. Fess up and we'll go easy on you whoever you are. Just return the painting and no one will know.
    Autumn, could it be Margaret??

    ReplyDelete
  95. See you in the Morning everyone. Nite Autumn you rock!!!!!
You made it so much fun and your icon change was inspirational for an idea. What fun, and we still don't know if it was Margaret or Beth?

    ReplyDelete
  96. I just asked Beth if she did it. You can ask Margaret Autumn!
Let's see if they fess up!

    ReplyDelete
  97. Mary, Sharon and lyn. You throw a heck of a party. YAWN. I'm a it tired too, so I think I'll curl up here on the couch. Croissants for breakfast, right?

    ReplyDelete
  98. Wow, what a party! What fun we had and what a super guest of Honour Autumn was.

Lyn stretches and flexes her little toes. What time was it when she finally got to sleep. No idea, but it was very late. She has collected so much data in this little sensor gadget, surely the thief will have given him or herself away. There should be some interesting information when she analyses it all!

She looks around. Guests are draped over over chair and couch in various stages of sleep. Sharon and Mary are curled up next to her, snoring gently. Well, all right then, rather loudly!

She opens the door quietly, and a delicious smell wafts up the stairs.

A few feet away, Autumn reclines gracefully on a long, low chaise longue. She stirs and stands up, not a hair out of place.

Come on Autumn, sounds as if Oliver is organising breakfast. I'm in the mood for some fresh, chocolate covered croissants!

    ReplyDelete
  99. (stretching) Mmmm, The smell of a man making breakfast. And it's not James making his yummy egg muffins. It's Oliver and he's serving Lyn chocolate croissants and fresh fruit.

Should we wake the rest of the guests or let them sleep? Paris in the morning is so lovely. Everything sparkles. The scent of fresh breads wafts the air, mixing with the sweet honeysuckle clinging to the balcony.

It was a wonderful party. I did miss MY RS sisters but they're very busy in Orlando.

Thank you, Lyn for throwing it for me in celebration of the release of Evil's Witness. I must thank Sharon and sweet Mary too. When they wake up.

    ReplyDelete
  100. Do I smell croissants? Sharon wakes up smiling. But her smile fades when Lyn and Autumn lick their fingers and smack their lips. Oliver shrugs and pumps his biceps. Hmmm...there seems to be a lot to the saying the early bird catches the croissant. Sharon grabs a big juicy apple and stuffs it in Mary's gaping mouth to stifle her disgusting snores. No one knows the true identity of the thief or where the portrait is. Another unsolved mystery for another R&T.
Autumn, thanks for being such a fun guest. We didd a lot of partying and Paris was so much fun. Come back any time, hear? Best of luck on Evil's Witness. It's a winner and is on my TBR list.
    Sharon

    ReplyDelete
  101. Mary wakes and makes some glub, blub, sound, forcing a large apple out of her mouth. No croissants left?
Lyn smiles while she stuffs the last of hers into her mouth.
Mary mutters,"I hope it goes right to your feet. Dainty my eye."
Lyn shakes her head and hands Mary a croissant which she has split with Sharon. Mary gives Lyn a quick hug and smiles. "I hate myself in the morning."
"Morning," Sharon laughs, "It's two in the afternoon."
The three hostess's and Autumn laugh. Then they go to make sure that any guests who crashed have some coffee or tea. While Oliver brings out a huge plate of croissants he has just finished.
Several noses in the room raise and sniff the delicious home made treat.
Autumn, if everyone wasn't at RWA, you'd have broken the record! I can't wait to read your book!
"Hey, who took the painting and did you get it back Lyn?"
Is that shoe gadget effective. We have to return it to the Lourve.

    ReplyDelete
  102. Thank you Sharon and I'd love to come back again. I had so much fun.

Mary, You said I get to pick a winner. The winner of a download of my Obsessed By WIldfire is

drumroll while I reach into my basket of names.

    The winner is Beth.

    YEAH! Beth. I'll email you,

Now, Lyn, please tell me is was it Beth who took the painting.

    ReplyDelete
  103. [Is that shoe gadget effective. We have to return it to the Lourve.]

LOL Mary, the Louvre ain't having my gadget! Oh, you mean the painting, yes well we caught the culprit and the painting will be returned before the gallery opens on Monday,

The sisters and Autumn did it again! Just another Roast & Toast!

    ReplyDelete
  104. Autumn, you've been such fun and we've loved having you as our special guest, it's been a blast!

Was it Beth who stole the painting? Come here and let me whisper ****** yes, I thought that would surprise you. Who'd've thought it?

    ReplyDelete
  105. Oooh, just noticed your previous post Autumn - I can't take all the credit for your party. It's a joint effort but we take turns in doing the 'write up'. Mary did most of the work this week, and I added some pictures, but as I said, it's a joint effort with the three of us.

(And you'd be surprised what goes on behind the scenes - someone has to do all the dusting and polishing - and the cleaning up afterwards! *Grin!)

I'm sure Beth is going to love 'Obsessed by Wildfire' - the rest of us will just have to buy a copy! :)

And wishing you many, many sales of 'Evil's Witness', it sounds fantastic!
