The three hostesses are all in a spin. They’re expecting a very special guest at the annual Roast And Toast rodeo - Roni Adams, and are making sure they’re all dressed for the occasion.
“Sharon,” Mary calls, “hurry up, if you want me to help you pick out a Stetson to go with that elaborate, jewelled, Western outfit you are wearing. I hope you don't outdo our guest. Lyn, would you please get Cuddles out of that refrigerator. He's been stuffing ambrosia down his throat and it's getting all over his costume. I have never seen a unicorn dressed as a huge hawk before.”
Lyn grabs Cuddles by the scruff of his neck and sponges him down. “Cuddles, what are you doing? You know we’re entered in the barrel races later on, and I don't want to get my best rodeo shirt mussed up either!”
Mary turns to survey the banquet Oliver’s prepared for the guest.
Oliver has spread out the chips, and enormous bowls of various home made salsa and the hugest pot of barbeque beans ever seen.
“Good job, good job,” Mary nods approvingly, dipping a chip into salsa before Oliver swats her hand. “And holy cow, a side of beef, whole pigs, and chicken, brisket, sausage and barbeque beans - it all looks delicious.” Mary pauses to catch her breath, drooling over the feast. “Just look at that chilli, for goodness sake, that's amazing. Golden cornbread, jars of honey, southern biscuit's, what's that fry bread you say, oh, it's an Indian thing, the aroma is unbelievable.”
So Oliver how many people are you expecting? You say an entire company? Authors, old and new, editors, senior editors, friends, heck even the accountant, WOW! She has some following. I know it's because she is so nice.” Roni Adams is so friendly, she radiates. I once watched her hug every writer she met at a party; (She pauses for breath.) “Hey how about this hat Sharon? It's a wonderful shade of mauve, and matches your outfit. By the way, that vest and jacket look fabulous on you. Here Lyn let me help you with your boots, Cuddles is outside flying around, looking to warn us when Roni gets here. “ Mary turns to Sharon, unable to contain her excitement.
“The rodeo will be a blast, I love barrel racing. And Willie Nelson may show - phenomenal! Wait Junior, yes your bandana is beautiful, you look very handsome. I am assigning you to protect Roni.”
All at once Cuddles flies in, trotting round and round and pointing toward the doorway with his horn. Mary, Sharon and Lyn rush outside, and scream in unison, “Yeee Haaaarh!”. A covered wagon draws up, drawn by two matching blanket spot appaloosas. Oliver helps the guest of honour descend. Roni Adams looks gorgeous. She is wearing an unbelievable outfit. Her Western show shirt complements her figure . And would you look at those rhinestones glittering in the blazing sun. Holy heck, where’s my shades? Her leather tooled cowboy boots match her outfit perfectly, and the Stetson, set at a jaunty angle completes the ensemble. Oliver waves away the four hunks who act as bodyguards and with Junior trotting close by, escorts her to the waiting hostesses.
With a devilish wink, Oliver takes the lovely Roni by the hand and shows her to her seat from which she will have the best view of the arena and the day's events. But first things first, he presents her with an icy glass of sweet tea. Kicking his heels up in the dust, he plucks his Stetson off his head and humbly asks, “If I might be so bold as to request your autograph, Ms. Adams?” He puts his hand inside his Western shirt and produces his copy of one of her books. Holding it close to his heart which is all a flutter, he turns to Roni’s adoring fans. “Ladies and Gents, may I introduce the one and only Roni Adams!”
Roni stands and waves at the people gathered around the arena. For the moment the forthcoming barrel racing and steer wrestling events are forgotten, all eyes are on Rhonda, for it is she everyone has really come to see. Oliver waits until the cheers die down, then clears his throat and reads from the paper held in a hand he can scarcely keep from trembling with excitement.
Roni Adams currently resides in a tiny hamlet in Upstate New York. She’s been
married for 24 years and has three sons, ages 13, 19, 21. Although, she’s been writing since she was 7 and has the “wonderful” short stories to prove it, she admits that she took a long leave of absence after getting married. When she finally returned to writing, it was as if a dam had burst and stories flew out of her into the computer. She sold several short stories to publishers Dorchester and Adams Media where she was published in True Confessions, True Romance, and A Cup of Comfort for Women in Love.
She released her first novel, “Beauty and the Geek” with The Wild Rose Press in thefall of 2007 and has steadily had two to three publications out each year since that time. She loves writing cowboy stories the best and is in the middle of a six book series called “The Double B” with The Wild Rose Press.
Roni also is excited to be part of a Yellow Rose anthology set in Wayback, Texas, released in June. “I got to write a great story alongside my two buddies, Stacy Dawn and Cindy Pape. It was a lot of fun and a honor to write with such wonderful authors. “Return to Wayback”was released in June from the Yellow Rose line.
These days Roni juggles her time between writing and helping out other authors. “I’m a firm believer in the circle of writing; the experienced writers and authors have an obligation to help the newer writers as they come along and as you move through the circle. If it wasn’t for my early critique partners such as Jo Barrett, and my friends at the San Antonio Romance Author’s chapter, I never would have learned what I’ve learned and gotten his far.”
You can contact Roni at roni@roniadams.com She loves to hear from readers. Her blog is also available at www.roniadams.blogspot.com
Oliver finishes speaking and gazes with open admiration and as the applause eventually dies down he dashes to the barbeque spit and returns with a plate loaded with goodies which he lays before her, bowing deeply, adoration shining in his eyes.
"Ma'am," he says, in a voice only slightly trembling, "I hope you will have a wonderful time here and enjoy the humble refreshments I have prepared... and I believe there is a line of your loyal fans waiting to meet you."
Then the loudspeaker crackles and the the strains of 'Mommas don't let your babies grow up to be cowboys' fill the air as the first event of the rodeo begins.

Roni Adams has very kindly offered one of her books as a prize to one lucky commentator who answers the question: "What foot-stomping song would make Roni kick up her heels?"

Wow! Howdy Ya'll!!! I can't believe we're finally all here. Seems like it took forever for it to be the Barbecue day! I'm so excited to be here and to share my love of all things Texas and cowboys! I'm here all day so anything I can answer or talk about I"m glad to do so.
ReplyDeleteNow listen, the one thing to keep in mind, there's nothing like Texas barbecue so even though its pretty early yet today I'm going to dig in and I invite you to do the same.
Roni
Lovin' it, Roni! Nothing like a cowboy story to make the day a little hotter!
ReplyDeleteWanted to share some news about my latest book - Trouble in Texas should be out at www.thewildrosepress.com by mid November and I'd love the chance to share it with some of you. Anyone who comments today will go into a drawing and the winner will get any copy of any of my books or she can wait and get an advance pdf of Trouble in Texas before it even hits the web site for sale.
ReplyDeleteHi everyone!
ReplyDeleteLooks like a fun party!
Love those cowboys, Roni, keep 'em comin'!
Nic
Oh Cari, you got it. These cowboys, what can I say, they just don't make men like that in suits and ties or at least not in my world. A Cowboy is still one of America's favorite heroes in a romance novel. Who am I to argue with that?
ReplyDeleteWelcome Roni! How lovely to see you. We're so excited to have you as our guest. Yes, Oliver's been up all night preparing and he's got the barbeque at just the right temperature so heap up your plates and let's get this party started!
ReplyDeleteYour new book sounds wonderful. Can't wait for its release!
Hello and welcome, Roni! I'm Sharon, one of the hostesses and welcoome you in grand rodeo style. Now what can Oliver getcha to drink while you tell us all about this new book?
ReplyDeleteSharon
Hi Cari, Hi Nicole, thanks for joining our Texan style barbeque and rodeo. Sit over here by Roni and Oliver will be with you in a moment to serve you something delectable straight from the grill!
ReplyDeleteThis sweet tea is all I need right now, although maybe a little later on we'll get into the hard stuff and I'll have a big diet pepsi :) The barbecue smells incredible and everyone looks great,I can't believe how many folks you have here.
ReplyDeleteI love writing my books set on a ranch in the Hill Country of Texas. San Antonio and the surrounding areas are some of my favorite places on earth. My Double B series, of which two are already out - To Tame A Cowgirl and The Cowboy Comes Home have been the books of my heart for a long time so I"m thrilled to share them with readers.
Hello Cari and Nicole! Welcome to the land of cowboys and dreams!
ReplyDeleteSharon
I was in Dallas and Fort Worth and found myself envisioning the way of the Wild, Wild West. It's easy to get inspired to write when the atmosphere is so open and free, isn't it?
ReplyDeleteSharon
Roni, I'm a Brit, but I'm a cowgirl at heart. I love everything Western, and even ride my horses Western style to the amusement of my English friends.
ReplyDeleteI have your books on my to be read list and can't wait to get down to them, especially after hearing all about them here. Give me the wide open spaces and a hunky cowboy any day!
Well howdy ya'll! Looks like we're gettin' quite a crowd here already! I just love the smell of a good Texas barbeque!
ReplyDeleteHeather
Hi Heather, take your spurs off and set a spell! :) Make yourself at home over there by Roni, she's got quite a little fan club going. Oliver, some refereshments please for our latest guest.
ReplyDeleteHowdy, Heather! We aim to please around here so name your poison and Oliver will fetch it for ya! Dig into that food! Rone, areyou ready for more sweet tea or are you ready for the hard stuff? An icy diet coke?
ReplyDeleteSharon
After the long ride in I just had, a tall glass of ice water sounds about perfect!
ReplyDeleteThis is a really cute blog! I haven't been here before. Roni, all of your titles look smokin! I gotta go check em out. :-)
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed the roasting and toasting. Roni is one of my favorite people and authors.
ReplyDeleteYou asked for foot stomping songs. No one seems to be suggesting any titles. I'm going out on a limb with American Ride by Toby Keith.
Umm, I know Oliver put her horse in the corral, Heather, but where's your saddle?
ReplyDeleteOh, drat, Cuddles, Cuddles come back with that saddle. It's not yours, I'll put your own little barrel racing saddle on a minute. Come back you pesky little varmit - good job he didn't run away with Roni's books, he's more like a magpie than a unicorn sometimes!
While I run after him and get Heather's saddle back, why don't y'all have a think about the answer to Roni's question - what foot stomping song do you think WOULD make Roni kick up her heels?
Hi Maggie, Hi Viola, lovely to see you both at Roni's party. Thanksfor the song suggestion, Maggie.
ReplyDeleteWelcome to the rodeo Viola and Maggie. And here's Oliver to give you some drinks. Heather, here's your ice water.
ReplyDeleteSharon
Wow, Cuddles is a lot stronger than I expected!
ReplyDeleteI'm rather fond of Taylor Swift's "Picture to Burn" myself.
Thanks, Sharon, that really hits the spot!
ReplyDeleteoops sorry to disappear folks, I was doing, um, er, research, yes research in the back corral with some of the lucious cowboys. They were giving me some, hmmm roping trips - yeah, roping tricks that's it. Hee hee.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, Maggie is absolutely correct Toby Keith gets me on my feet every time. He's such a huge big old hunk of Oklahoma cowboy. I'm a huge fan of Brad Paisley too not to mention Carrie Underwood, Taylor Swift, and some older folks like Reba and Randy Travis too. Country music all the time - nothing like it. Now excuse me while I try roping this fence post like the cowboys showed me.
Puff - pant! Phew Heather, got your saddle back - no more ambrosia for you Cuddles, if you keep on nicking things!
ReplyDeleteSo tell us a little bit more about your latest book, Roni, if you don't mind. (I know Oliver's determined to get you to eat as much of his home prepared Texas fare as he can)
Do you have to do a lot of research for your books, or is it all there, inspired by your surroundings?
When I think of New York, I don't think of cowboys. LOL. Hey, Roni. Nice seeing you here. I've only been to one Rodeo in my life, and I was so caught up with the cowboy I went with I don't remember much about the event. hehe
ReplyDeleteWheehay, Roni. I'm not sure I was talking about THAT kind of research, LOL but there's nothing like a few roping lessons with a hunky cowboy.
ReplyDeleteWow, impressive! you got that rope around Cuddles' horn first time!I may ask you to stay permanently, he can be such a naughty wee unicorn I could really use someone who can throw a rope like that!
Hi Catherine, sit down there and let Oliver serve you something from the barbeque, if he can stop gazing at Roni so adoringly for a moment.
ReplyDeleteOh - look the barrel racing's started. That's my favourite rodeo event!
Hi Catherine. Welcome to the rodeo. Oh and just in time for the barrel racing. And yes Roni, we'd love to hear more about your new book. How long does it take you to write one?
ReplyDeleteWay to go Maggie! Congratulations on guessing that foot stomping tune!
ReplyDeleteSharon
Hey Lyn, did Mary lasso a cowboy and take off into the wild blue yonder? LOL We know how she hates to miss a party! Must be that new rodeo outfit that caught the outlaw's eye!
ReplyDeleteSharon
The saddle doesn't look the worse for wear, and you can't blame a unicorn was wanting something so pretty!
ReplyDeleteOh Oliver, you changed hats. What's that? Yes I'm sure Roni will spot you a mile away in that ten gallon Stetson. And just how many spurs are you wearing? Your feet hurt? Well didn't I warn you not to wear snake boots until you broke them in. And since you're running around serving food and drinks, your feet will be smartin' plenty tonight.
ReplyDeleteSharon
Aw poor Oliver, I thoought those high heeled cowboy boots looked a bit narrow.
ReplyDeleteHey, let's hope Mary hastn't been kidnapped by outlaws - could we afford a ransome? Perhaps you're right and she's run off with a handsome cowpoke.
You're very forgiving Heather, I keep telling Cuddles not to 'borrow' things!
Someone asked me more about my books - you can read some pretty good excerpts on all of them on www.roniadams.com but I can share a bit about them here. The first book in the Double B series is To Tame A Cowgirl. This is one of my favorite type of books - friendship that's turned to love. I put a little twist on it to up the stakes while my hero is trying to figure out how to risk everything and tell his best buddy he loves her, she (Sara) is proposed to by his older brother. This is a modern day "marry to save the family farm" type of story which isn't always easy to do in modern day, but there's some surprises along the way in store for our hero and heroine as Sara has to make the ultimate decision - does she love the Double B more than she loves her best friend - Buck?
ReplyDeleteAs for my research - I have to admit to having studied cowboys long and hard :) I also enjoy annual visit to Texas and my favorite dude ranch which inspires me more than you can know - lol. I will also give credit as I always do to the wonderful amazing authors that belong to the San Antonio Romance Authors group. These ladies took a New York gal in under their wing and taught me everything I wanted to know about being a Texan.
ReplyDeleteI'll be right back - Oliver mentioned wanting to show me something out behind the barn - I think it might be an Armadillo he knows they are my all time favorite critters!
ReplyDeleteHey Cuddles, Junior, I think you'd better go and see if you can track Mary down. It's OK Junior, Oliver will look after Roni for you.
ReplyDeleteOff you go you too, and don't be too long - and make sure you bring her back - unless she's discussing philosophy with a cowboy of course!
LOL If a woman shows interest, it becomes Oliver's hobby to amuse her. Roni, your books are on my TBR list. Ever since the night soap Dallas, I love a good Texan cowboy. Like Bobby! And Ray! JR was more of a well...you know what!
ReplyDeleteSharon
Oh dear! Cuddles and Junior found Mary round back. She fell off her bronco and hit her head and has amnesia! She forgets what day it is! What should we do?
ReplyDeleteSharon
Oooh Roni - I've always wanted to visit America and stay on a dude ranch! Your research sounds - heavenly!
ReplyDeleteI really like the sound of 'To Tame A Cowgirl', I love stories of friendship that turns to romance too. Now I'm definitely going to have to put it on my Christmas list - if I can wait that long!
Aw, is there really an armadillo behind the barn? How sweet. I didn't realise Oliver was so interested in wild life!
Oh crumbs Sharon, what a catastrophe!
ReplyDeleteThank goodness Junior and Cuddles found her, quick Cuddles, come here and put touch this big lump on Mary's head with your horn, see if you can cure her amnesia!
Mary rides in on her quarter horse, she had to take her DH to the hospital. Fever and a slight case of pneumonia. Darn. I missed so much. Oliver quick get me a martini please.
ReplyDeleteYep I found an Armadillo with Oliver, he's such a sweet guy isn't he? So caring about us gals. I have a nice little collection of stuffed armadillos in my home office, that along with some gorgeous pictures of cattle and cowboys keeps me going through those long NY winters.
ReplyDeleteSo I was talking about my books - the second in the Double B series is called "The Cowboy Comes Home" now this one was a little different - Tyler and Beth were long time sweethearts, engaged to be married and then Tyler got cold feet and left town. My struggle with this book was how to write it so readers would still love Tyler even though he'd hurt Beth deeply. By the time Tyler came home to the Double B for the holidays he was determined to win back the woman he loves and Beth's as equally determined to have nothing to do with him. Trying to have a romance on the Double B with so many people coming in and out all the time is never easy! With the holiday coming round again it might be a good time to pick up the Cowboy Comes Home since it takes place during Christmas.
Ok off to have some wonderful lunch! I can't wait to indulge in all my favorites.
Mary! We were worried about you. And here comes Oliver at the ready with your chocolate martini! Is hubby all right? There's a lot of flu going around. Whewww, hope you dont catch it.
ReplyDeleteSharon
Look it's the guys from the move The Magnificent Seven, they seem to be drawing their peacemakers to go after the James Gang. Mary runs to Yul Brenner and begs him not to start an OK corral thing till after the rodeo and roast. but he looks determined. Junior, Cuddles stop him!
ReplyDeleteOh Mary, thank goodness you're OK. So sorry about the DH. Hmm, if you've just ridden up, who's that lying face down in the dirt with a lump on her head?
ReplyDeleteNevr mind, we'll sort it out, I'll fetch that Martini for you. Oliver's a bit busy at the moment. He's showing Roni his armadillo!
That's my stunt double she was supposed to step in for me, but she didn't. Now I know why.
ReplyDeleteAntibiotics for DH slight case of pneumonia.
Watch out the James Gang is here to kidnap Roni, and the Magnificent Seven are getting ready for a gunfight. What will we doooooo??
Sharon and Lyn, Oliver is crouched down in front of Roni, gun in hand.
ReplyDeleteHe's ready to shoot. Sharon does he know how to use that thing?
They're getting closer, everyone is afraid to hit Roni so no one is firing their guns. Yet.
A burst of thunder as Oliver tries to pick the James Gang off.
Whoa, Qui! Whoa up there, girl! Easy, easy... I swear she thinks shes still on the track! That's about the fastest trip I've made here to ya'll's neck of the woods from my spread up north of Dallas in, well, I don't know when...
ReplyDeleteHey, Oliver, would you come over here and help a lady down off her horse, please? Thank you, darlin'...whew! Is anyone else hot in here, or is it just me?
Hey, Roni! Sharon! Sorry I'm late. Have I missed anything? I see the barrel racing is still going on. Did I ever mention I did a bit of 'show-d-o-in' back in the day? Yep, sure did. Ran the barrels on an ole ornery,long-legged, buckskin named Sidewinder.
So, Roni, your latest, Trouble in Texas, we can get our hands on it next month? That's terrific! You really are a cowgirl at heart, aren't ya, girl!
Hey, Maggie, did you know when I lived back up there in OK, I just lived up the road a piece from Toby Keith's spread—and I do mean "spread" — whoa, doggie! Well, I'm gonna wander on over to the bar and grab me a glass of sarsaparilla. Great get-together, Sharon!
Annie get your gun! This rodeo is sure hoppin'. The brothers James and....are those the brothers Cole and James Younger? Why, it's the entire James Gang reunited. Who said the outlaws of the Wild Wild West are history?
ReplyDeleteSharon
Oh I'm glad you and Oliver are back now, Roni, and that he's been looking after you.
ReplyDeleteOh your books sound so intersting, I just love Western romances. Thanks for telling us about 'The Cowboy Comes Home' it sounds wonderful.
Enjoy your lunch, there's heaps of your favourite goodies at the barbeque. I'm off to have some myself now, I can't wait any longer the aroma is just too tempting!
Maye if we all bat our eyelashes at the Magnificent Seven we can distract them from their original intent. Come on ladies!
ReplyDeleteLyn, get Cuddles he's flying over the James Gang shooting laser beams at them. I don't want him shot.
ReplyDeleteOliver quick take Roni to the dressing rooms. She needs to change into her jeans, red and white checked shirt and comfortable red boots. They won't know it's her if we get her out of that spangled outfit. Go Oliver quick!
Hi Joelle, so glad you could join us. Just tie your horse to the rail here, and enjoy your sarsarsaparilla.
ReplyDeleteIt is a little warm here, not sure if it's the weather or all these hot cowboys - and Oliver LOL!
Talking about Oliver - what's going on over there - sounds like the gunfight at the OK Corral!
Great idea Heather. While Roni changes start batting those eyelashes, look they are backing away. I think it's working!
ReplyDeleteRoni that outfit looks so you. Care to try a barrel race now?
Don't worry, Mary, Cuddles is immortal. thank goodness.
ReplyDeletePoor Roni - she was about to go off with Oliver to have her lunch at the barbeque when all the shooting started!
Whew, look at those outlaws go, we showed 'em gals - and Oliver!
ReplyDeleteCuddles is galloping after them full pelt, shooting sparks from his horn to make sure they get far away from here and don't come back!
Yes, that outfit looks gorgeous on Roni, I think she 's earned her lunch after all that - I don't think her barrel race is on until later!
My goodness I hope Oliver is keeping her away from all the outlaws.
ReplyDeleteJunior is still guarding her. but he's concerned, he says hes had to bite a couple of them and you know what that means.
The gunfight is on!!!
Get down, there's a figure walking down the dirt road. He's, He's, my God it's the Duke himself. Those outlaws are starting to run and he hasn't even shot his gun once.
ReplyDeleteYeah for the Duke.
Oh, fancy John Wayne himself joining the party!
ReplyDeleteHi stranger, git off yer hoss an' let your saddle cool a spell!
Hey Joelle! Glad you made the shin dig on your horse! Wow what an entrance and I do believe Oliver lost his Stetson! Have a bite to eat and here comes your drink. Ohhh yes, it is a bit hot in here and with all these outlaws, things can only get hotter. And maybe Roni will tell us a bit more about her book. Sounds great!
ReplyDeleteSharon
Thank goodness Oliver took her away to change just in time. The gun fighting seems to have stopped. As long as the Duke is here we're okay.
ReplyDeleteSo Roni have you written anything besides Westerns or are they the only love of your writing career?
Sharon gasps. John Wayne lives! Just like Elvis! He never left the build...oh...rodeo!
ReplyDeleteS
The Author Roast and Toast is a magical place where anything can happen, and you never know who's going to turn up!
ReplyDeleteYes, he lives, and he is here to make sure no harm comes to our esteemed guest. Hey when does the rodeo start?
ReplyDeleteI'm off to have something to eat now, I can't wait any longer. Oliver - lead me to it!
ReplyDelete*Arrives breathless. Had to fight my way through a band of gunslingers to get here. I agree, ain't nothing like a cowboy story!
ReplyDeleteHey Beth come on over to the table. Everyone is munchin down and until they are done it will be peaceful. But the Duke don't take no nonsense.
ReplyDeleteOh look at the desert table, buttermilk pie, sweet potato pie, apple pie, and I have to try some.
Welcome Beth! Which horse is yours? Not the one the James brothers just lassoed I hope. And is that Roni with them? Oliver, Cuddles and Junior to the rescue! Watch out for these bullets!
ReplyDeleteSharon
I think I"m going to pass on the barrel racing myself but I would recommend a really good story about a barrel racer - in the anthology I did with Cindy Pape and Stacy Dawn for the WayBack Series one of our characters was a barrel racer. My hero was a bullrider. If you enjoy the rodeo you'll love "Finding Their WayBack"
ReplyDeleteMy guess is _Don't Let Your Sons Grow up to be Cowboys by Willie Nelson.
ReplyDeleteRoni - your books sound like great fun, and hey, I was the Cloverdale Rodeo Queen when I was 16!
Yoo-hooo!
Patrice Wilton
Generally, I do write contemporaries, mostly cowboy contemporaries, however, my first full length novel out with The Wild Rose Press was "Beauty and the Geek" and it was set in a small town in Upstate NY and had nothing to do with cowboys. Again, a great story about friendship that turns to love but always with a twist. Our beauty has no clue that her buddy, Louie, the computer geek is the secret man behind the mask at the Valentine Day Ball - he sweeps her off her feet but how will Louie make her believe he can be the same hot lover without a mask?
ReplyDeleteI also wrote two short paranormal stories in "Tales from Christmas Town" and "Love from Christmas Town" - these stories were about Santa Claus adult children and their wacky quest for love. Definitely a hot read for a cold winter night!
While those of us who are participating in the rodeo line up for our turn at things.
ReplyDeleteSharon is riding the bulls!
Lyn is sticking to pick up races, and loves to show off her horses.
So while we wait tell us more!
Those Christmas shorts sound wonderful Roni. Are they published with the wonderful Wild Rose Press?
ReplyDeleteAre all your books published by this fantastic publisher?
I'm riding the bull! Holy heck! That thing is mean. I doubt even the brothers James could tame 'em. Mary, maybe you can ride the nice bull. Here's a red kerchef. Ride em cowgirl!!
ReplyDeleteSharon
Roni, can Oliver bring you a diet pepsi now? You've tried your hand at quite a variety of genres, but seemed to have your nitch with the cowboy stories. I can't wait to read them!
ReplyDeleteSharon
I'm glad it's calming down now! Can't wait to watch the barrel racing (yes, I live int he heart of rodeo country, but I've never been to one.'bout time, wouldn't you say?) Oh, I need a refill on my plate. That food is so good!
ReplyDeleteAs I stand on the fence ready to get on the bull. Hope they don't call him killer for nothing. I'm only doing this for you Sharon.
ReplyDeleteMary slithers her way down onto the bulls back and tells them not to pull on the thingee they have around his abdomen to make him angry.
No Cuddles don't!! OH MY GOD, the chute is open!
Help somebody write me outta this!!
Mary's screams echo over the hushed crowd. AAAAHHHHHHHH!!!!
Happy roasting, Roni! Wish I hadn't sold my Palomino Appaloosa a few years ago, or I'd have ridden him in. I'm envious of Mary's quarter horse! And Lyn has such gorgeous horses too.
ReplyDeleteNow that's a dedicated author, asking cowboys to help with your personal research. Gotta have those authenticating details!
Best of luck with Trouble in Texas! Like your other releases, it sounds like a great read.
Hm, is there a Wild Rose of Texas song (or am I making that up)?
Mary, don't do it, girl! I was only kidding. That bull can't be tamed by even the Duke himself! Ohhhh if you didn't have a lump on your head before, you sure will after that nasty spill. He prit near stampeded you to death. Here, let's get you over here where Junior can protect you. Oh there goes the Duke, flashing the red flag in his face!
ReplyDeleteSharon
Patrice, I love that song. Good guess. And congratulations on being the rodeo queen when you were sixteen. Sounds awesome.
ReplyDeleteSharon
Too late! I'm bouncing around on this thing and holding on for dear life. Help!! Oliver help me!!!
ReplyDeleteRoni write me outta this please
Mary soars gracefully over the fence and straight onto Cuddles' back.
ReplyDeletePhew, thank goodness you caught her Cuddles, that bull looks mean. Right, let's get you cleaned up now, it's nearly time for us to take part in the barrel race - amy favourtie event. It's OK Cuddles, don't look so worried, it's only three barrels, not a whole line of 'em!
Roni, looks like 'Finding Their Wayback' is another one I'm going to have to hogtie and brand!
Hi CAte and Patrie, great to see you.
Oh Sharon and Cuddles thank you. I was scared to death. Just trying to show off for our guest. I better clean up. Mary sighs and goes to change.
ReplyDeleteRoni you are the rodeo queen. Tell us more about how you first got published. I need to relax and have some of this delicious food. I'm tuckered out.
Hello Hywela and Sharon. Had to pop out of here for a bit. Looks like Roni leaving with Oliver so he could show her around the barn *wink, wink... Might have been a bad thing? I guess that depends on what Oliver looks like. lol
ReplyDeleteCate! Isn't this great. I just love horses and always wanted one. I used to ride and there is nothing like it. Grab some grub and if Oliver stops adjusting his Stetson, he'll bring you a cold drink.
ReplyDeleteSharon
Glad you're back, Catherine. Yes that Oliver is a bit jealous with all these hot looking cowboys. Sigh. And outlaws. He hates competition. And he's quite smitten with our Roni!
ReplyDeleteSharon
Hi Catherine, yes, Oliver certainly knows how tomake a lady feel like a Princess - or a Rodeo Queen! And if you want to know what he looks like, just take a scroll down the sidebar of the blog!
ReplyDeleteWhere is everyone? I'm waiting for the barrel races to start?
ReplyDeleteSorry Mary, you just missed 'seeing Cuddles and me barrel race. We galloped into the arena, whizzed round the first barrel looped around the next, and then across to the third, but poor ol' Cuddles got carried away and slid along in a cloud of dust like a reining horse doing a sliding stop, nearly hit the barrier and had to take off quick, so we got disqualified for flying. Nevr mind, it was fun!
ReplyDeleteWhere's Roni? Have the James gang taken her? I don't think so they are over by the Duke talking since the truce was arranged.
ReplyDeleteI can imagine Cuddles sliding off.
Did you finish? I see Cate is up next for the barrel race. Go Cate, go!
Grin, yes we finished, Mary, but flying over the barrier is a disqualification, even though we were clear round the last barrel! It's such a fun thing to do though. Remind me to tell you of the time I rode a Fiord horse bareback in a barrel race - oh well, perhaps another time. Let's watch how Cate does.
ReplyDeleteOh you were asking about Roni? When last seen Oliver was taking her for a tour round the barn...
Ohhhh Oliver. Hmmm. I hope she comes back soon. The work crowd will be showing up soon. I'd hate for them to miss her, Oliver wouldn't be fresh would he Lyn?
ReplyDeleteI'm dying to ask her about her favorite character in any of her books.
Lyn collapses into uncotrollable giggles. Oliver? Get fresh? With Roni? haa ha haa, giggle giggle snaort! Would he? Of course not - snort again! Do horses like hay? is chilli hot? Oh dear, you know Oliver's reputation with the ladies! Don't worry though, he's a real gentleman at heart, he won't give her more than a kiss on the cheek - unless she wants him to!
ReplyDeleteLooks like I missed one wild yet great party! Oh, well. Better late than never, right? *wink*
ReplyDeleteLet's see, a song...how about "Boot Scootin' Boogie" by Brooks and Dunn?
Roni, I hope you had a great time getting roasted and searching out armadillos with Oliver!
Sharon flies into the arena on her American Quarter, head back and screaming as they leap over the barrels. Yeeee haaaaaaaaa! And the quarter bucks her off and she lands in Jessie James lap. Well, howdy, pardner. Where've ya been all my life?
ReplyDeleteSharon
Sharon, you have all the luck. All I got for my bull riding fiasco was mud on my outfit.
ReplyDeleteHey, look who just drove into Dodge. It's E.A.! Are you up for some barrel racing? Never know where you might land!
ReplyDeleteSharon
Hey is that E.A. belting out Boot Scootin' Boogie as she rounds the last barrel on her Strawberry Roan Mustang.
ReplyDeleteI hear she tamed the horse herself. It was a rescue horse, Wow, I'm impressed.
LOL Sharon, you DO have all the luck! All I got for my barrel racing exploites - after I'd successfully negotiated the three barrels, was a diqualification for flying over the barrier - Cuddles here got a bit over excited bless him!
ReplyDeleteHi EA, you're not too late to join the party it's still humming and Oliver's prepared enough food for the whole of Texas, let alone Dodge Clty!
The audience stands and applauds.
ReplyDeleteWoah, EA, you and Strawberry did a great race!
The crowd roars over E.A.'s near perfect time.
ReplyDeleteAll I got is this ole man, Uncle Fester, following me around.
Sharon and cuddles lead her to the ring to get her ribbon.
Roni comes galloping in. Hey all! Sorry about disappearing but Oliver took me on this wonderful tour of the area and we got a bit off the trail. He's such a very cool guy isn't he? But I"m here now for a bit and I promise I'll come back again later tonight for those end of the day questions.
ReplyDeleteMAry asked about my all time favorite character in my book. Have to admit its probably Charli Boyd - she's my redhead wild gal from Trouble in Texas. She's...well, Trouble. Not in a bad way though but boy does she lead my hero, the small town vet Dr. Grant Clark on a wild ride. All he wants is to build up his vet practice and find a nice quiet gal to settle down with and start a life. Charli is the complete opposite and would be a complete mistake. However, as Charli reminds him "some mistakes are too much fun to only do once." Trouble in Texas should be out (fingers crossed) before Thanksgiving.
Whew! That was a wild ride! After galloping around those barrels, I think Strawberry and I could both go for some grub. What do you say, Oliver? Hay and a few oats for Strawberry and maybe some of that delicious chili for me?
ReplyDeleteShe sounds feisty and spirited. My kind of heroine. I just love romance because there is always a happy ending.
ReplyDeleteThis sounds like a read that would take my mind off of all my problems.
Thanksgiving you say, I will look for it then. I just love Western Romance.
Your horse is beautiful, did you braid the mane and tail yourself?
What breed is it?
Ooh, Roni, I like Charli already! The feisty heroines can be so much fun.
ReplyDeleteE.A. I love a feisty heroine too. One with guts and spirit.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on winning the barrel race in your group. Wait till you see Oliver in his class.
Have some grits, better yet, cornbread with that Chili. Watch out it's...uh oh, it's awful spicy hot.
Ladies! I've been interrupted, the cell phone rang and hubby is coming by in his big pick up truck to take me out for a bit. I promise I'll drop back in later this evening. If anyone has questions, please ask and I"ll get to all of them. Enjoy the rest of the barbecue and sweet tea and save my spot. I'll be back in an hour or so.
ReplyDeleteWe'll all wait for your return.
ReplyDeleteHope you have a good time with your hubby!
Holy cow Roni. She sounds like one fiery redhead! It's a must read for sure. Lyn, now why would they go and disqualify you. Don't they know you are the witch of the Wales Trails?
ReplyDeleteAnd Mary, is that Fester from Gunsmoke? Holy heck, the dead have risen!
Sharon
And here comes Oliver with a steaming bowl of chili for E.A. and some oats for Strawberry. And does he look a bit flustered from his tour with Roni?
ReplyDeletethat's the one, he says that there is a virtual portal open today. Any cowboy or outlaw can attend this roast, dead or alive. Hey is that Annie Oakley shootin' over at the gun range?
ReplyDeleteHey Roni, I just love feisty redheaded heroines too. My first book, published with TWRP, features a feisty redhead, only she rides starships rather than horses!
ReplyDeleteI'll be looking forward to reading ALL your books now!
Well, Sharon, strictly speaking barrel racing ponies ain't supposed to have wings (or a horn) and the judge's didn't approve of him sliding up the arena and flying over the barrier! Never mind, we enjoyed it, and we couldn't have beaten EA And Strawberry's round, anyway!
Holy smoke, Mary, I thought that was Uncle Fester from the Adams Family!
Mm, this chili looks great. And the cornbread is the perfect thing to help with the spice. Thank you, Oliver. Oh, and Strawberry is so happy with the oats! There's nothing better than a happy horse, good food, and a crowd of cowboys. :)
ReplyDeleteFun post, ladies! Congrats on the upcoming release, Roni!
ReplyDeleteMaybe he was there too. I don't know. All I know is you guys have hunks following you. I have Fester and he is very old and wrinkly.
ReplyDeletePoor Mary, I'm sure Oliver would get rid of Uncle Fester for you - and 'sigh' you can't accuse Olvier of not being hunky! What event did Sharon say he was competing in?
ReplyDeleteHi Emma Lai, lovely to see you. Sit yourself down by EA there, and help yourself to some of that sweet tea Roni likes so much, and whatever else you fancy.
I don't remember, but I do know they are having a hot hunks contest later and he is entered.
ReplyDeleteThanks for getting the old guy to leave me alone Oliver. I just love when you pay attention to me. Ha and Sharon is busy stuffing her face, so she will never know!
Oliver! Stop clobbering the headless horseman! But Oliver knocks him out, grabs his horse and gallops over the barrels to show off for Roni. But the headless horseman comes to and flies through the air and lands on his horse and sends Oliver sailing high in the air and he lands in the pot of hot chili! His buns are on fire and he screams loud enough to wake the dead. Oh he's already done that. The dead outlaws have already rode into Dodge.
ReplyDeleteSharon
Oh my God is that guy really headless. Holy Cow!
ReplyDeleteMary runs to hide behind the cowboys who are swaggering about. Ah, the Duke, I'm hidin' behind him.
It is kinda funny to watch Oliver running around clutching his buns. There he found a horse trough, the smile on his face is amazing. There is steam coming out of his ears. Cuddles is rolling on the ground laughing.
Junior is howling with laughter. Poor Oliver, he tries so hard.
Oh dear, how can someone as devastatingly hunky as Oliver, be such a clunkhead sometimes!
ReplyDeleteOh dear, now all the ghostly outlaws are terrorising the rodeo horses -uh oh, here come the ghosts of Wyatt Earp and his brothers Virgil, Morgan and James - oh, and is that Doc Holliday? Wow, they'll soon sort the bad guys out!
I am so excited, I have never seen so many outlaws in my life!
ReplyDeleteIt's like the OK Corral or something. Look at all of them go at it.
Thank goodness you made them leave their guns behind. The fists are flying. Fast and furious. Who do you think will win?
It's hard to say, Mary, it's quite funny really, they're only ghosts so the fists aren't really connecting - well not in this dimension anyway!
ReplyDeleteI'm back. Whew you guys have been busy for sure! This has certainly been one wild ride of a barbecue party. I'm so glad ya'll invited me to come by today. I'll pop back and forth for anyone who has questions for me and thank you so much for the gracious hospitality all day today. So happy the weather cooperated and we were able to enjoy the rodeo!
ReplyDeleteWe have so enjoyed having you. Your books are right up my alley. Looking forward to reading them. I will hang around for the after work crowd. The party is still going strong. We have some strange happenings going on.
ReplyDeleteThanks for getting into the spirit and for being such a good sport about it.
Sharon and Lyn, you guys are just amazing!
Thank you so much for being our very special guest, Roni, it's been great having you and I hope you enjoyed the virtual food and rodeo events, and that Oliver looked after you (I'm sure he did LOL) and yes - hasn't the weather been lovely. (We ordered it specially)
ReplyDeleteWow! This is some shindig for one great lady. (Winking at Oliver as he hands her a Southern Comfort punch).
ReplyDeleteHi Roni! Best of luck with your releases. Is that Patsy Cline singing in the background? Always been taken up by "Your Cheatin' Heart" and especially her version of "I Fall To Pieces".
Sorry to be so late, but don't these handsome cowboys look just plain gorgeous around the campfire? Woohoo! Enjoy your celebration, Roni! You deserve it.
Hi Mickey, oh you got your drink and your cowboy too! Good show. Hope you can enter the barrel contest. I was thrown, but landed in Jessie James's lap!
ReplyDeleteRoni, it has indeed been our pleasure to have you aboard today. You are a delight and your books are must reads. Best of luck in all you do!
Sharon
Hi Mickey, so glad you could come by. There's still plenty of food and drink as you see, and the company is great!
ReplyDeleteI always get to the barbecue late. Any short ribs left? I live in Texas and get to wear western to work on Rodeo Day. Must say that I ride my horses English but I met a cowboy once that almost changed my mind!
ReplyDeleteHi Mickey, has Oliver been taking care of you?
ReplyDeleteLinda there is plenty of food left, Oliver made enough for an army.
Did you notice all the outlaws and old lawmen lying around out back of the barn. They are all drunk, they found the Martini's and all hell broke loose. My goodness it's like unbelievable! The rodeo is still going on and look Oliver is dressed like that guy who helps get the bulls away from their riders in the ring. He's dressed like a rodeo clown. HHHHAAAA~
Welcome Autumn, I'm sure there's plenty of spare ribs left, Oliver was determined no-one was going to go hungry.
ReplyDeleteI'm British (well Welsh) so of course I learned to ride English style, but now I ride Western, have all the tack and even wear a reinforced Stetson. You ought to try it - it's so comfortable both for horse and rider, and I think it's a much more relaxed, pleasant way of going.
Don't Roni's books sound wonderful! Who can resist a hunky cowboy?
Hey Roni! Love your books! I'm going to guess Achy Breaky Heart by Billy Ray Cyrus. *grin*
ReplyDeleteNow I'm goin' ta go back and read about all the fun ya'll had today.
I really did miss the fun today. Bummer. Oh well, my sister was more the barrel racer, not me. But I'm glad to see Charlie's book is next. She was so much fun and obvious trouble when I met her in To Tame a Cowgirl.
ReplyDeleteYou ladies sure know how to throw a party. Oliver has been taking good care of everyone! Was that Cuddles I saw flying overhead just now? You girls know better than to turn him lose with a laser! Congrats on the new release Roni!
ReplyDeleteRound em up, move em out - Eeeeehaaaawwwww! That's my cowgirl imitation. I don't know, is it kosher to roast your editor? Oliver makes me hot, though I love those cowboys in their tight Levis, big shiny belt buckles, Stetsons . . . (she fans herself). Er, moving on. Good blog, enjoyed reading it and all the comments.
ReplyDeleteHi Lyn! Hi Sharon! And yes, Mary, Oliver has taken care of me - haven't seen that fresh side of him yet. He looks adorable as a rodeo clown (hehehe) Did Roni helped him with his make-up? Think I'll mosey on over to the coral and watch a bit more :)
ReplyDeleteYes, ma'am. There's nothing like a man in tight pants.
ReplyDeleteSorry I missed all the fun today, Roni. Congratualtions on the new book.
I'm off to watch MLB playoffs.
Kat
Yes ladies thanks for stopping by.
ReplyDeleteOliver does look kinda cute as a rodeo clown Mickey.
Patsy there are a lot of hunky cowboys all over. Bull riders, bronc riders, guys who ride cutting horses, it's amazing!
Scarlet the he is a magic unicorn and he has there powers. He's uncontrollable sometimes. And Lyn is sleeping now...
Stacey barrel racing is fun, but it'd kill me now!
Thanks for coming by!!
What can be better than a barbeque?
ReplyDeleteHave a great day and congratulations! Brenda
dancealert at aol dot com
Holy heck, the outlaws have risen once more from their drunken stupors. Can ghosts get drunk? Well it would seem so. Oh, mornin' Jessie! Sure, I can muster up some grub and coffee for ya. And look who joined the rodeo. And the barrel race continues. They're all in line--Linda, Stacey, Scarlet, Patsy, Cat Brenda and Mickey's up now. Go Mickey! Whoooooo Daddyyyyy!
ReplyDeleteSharon
It's 4 in the mrorning, and once more the dawning...Lyn stirs and looks around as the first rays of the sun creep over the sleepy hills illuminating the scene below.
ReplyDeleteOh. a few more new faces, Brenda, Scarlet, Stacy, Patsy, Kat...did I miss any? Oh and there's Sharon fast asleep and still holding a plate of sausages.
WOW!
Cowboys, cowgirls, visitors, hostesses stretched out everywhere. The snores are enough to wake the dead. Oh yes, they've already woken! Where - look there are some misty shapes drifting toward the mountains, even the ghosts of Jesse James and his gang, Wyatt Earp and the rest have had to call it a 'day'. Everyone's plum tuckered out. Where's Oliver, he'll need to start the barbeque, or at least light a campfire, and start preparing coffee and breakfast soon for when this lot wake. Hope he escorted Roni home safely - I'm sure he did, he's very conscientious despite his larking around. Oh - there he is, fast asleep at Sharon's feet, still in his rodeo clown outfit, with a silly grin plastered all over his face.
Aw, I can't wake him yet, he looks so cute, and his snores are so musical! Wait, who's that snuggled up on his other side. Ah, it's Brenda, sorry Brenda, didn't see you there.
ReplyDeleteWow what a party! You can't beat a Texan style rodeo/barbeque. Well I'm just going to lie down here and doze until they all wake up!
Yaawwwwnnn. Who's makin' a the noise?
ReplyDeleteSharon, Lyn? You guys up early?
I see the schedule has some activities left today. Some bronc riding, a pick up race, hey the fun is not over!
Holy Moley! Those rising bandits and lawmen, who knew ghosts sleep. It was wonderful of them to come! I can hear the music Ghost Riders In The Sky over the loudspeakers and Oliver get that sausage out of Sharon's mouth, it's much too big. Cuddles wake Lyn up and close her mouth, she's snoring and it's 7:30am est. The barbecue pits are smoking again! See you later, Mary dashes off to her local chapters monthly meeting. Ta, Ta, ladies and have a great day. Till I get back!
Hi, Ronnie. As always a day late and... well you get the picture. What a wonderfully fun toast and roast. As you know, I'm a shifter/vamp chick but hey! I'd never turn away a hot cowboy. Just not done in any part of town. Thanks for the invite to the rodeo. Interesting as I've never attended one before. hmmm...might be an interesting take on shifters. A cowboy locked in a bull's body? Might just work.
ReplyDeleteMuch success to you and big hugs as well. Did you ever get that pink SUV? I loved having you last winter. When we gonna do it again?
Dayana
Thanks so much everyone for staying all weekend and partying with me but now I must ride off. If anyone has questions or wants to know more about me and my books you can find me at www.roniadams.com or www.roniadams.blogspot.com or email me at roni@roniadams.com
ReplyDeleteI've picked a winner from all the comments to receive her choice of any of my books in print or an early version of Trouble in Texas in electronic format. I'll send the winning name to our marvelous coordinators and thank you again for having me over. Take care and I'll see you round the rodeo!
Roni
Thanks again for being such a great guest and making it such fun, Roni, and hello Dayana, glad you visited and enjoyed all the silliness!
ReplyDelete
